First track day - best times?

Here he is - searched all the numbers before finding him in the last letters - "y" for yamaha (I'm not that smart...)

http://gotbluemilk.com/web090622/y/imagepages/image10.html

If the time stamps are anything to go by, he may have been doing something in the 2:0X range or better. He is photographed at 2:09:27, then again at 2:13:40 - that's 4 min 13 seconds. Assuming he's not doing 4 minute laps, that is an average of 2:06 per lap.

It appears as though he had a camera set up on his bike, if you are in doubt, just have him post the video... simple solution

times

Fast street riders can do 2:10-2:15 on their first day. I did a 2:30 and got it down to 2:20.997 on my second time back to the track.

I'm don't consider myself a fast rider, but I had fun.

TT

on a stock 1996 srad I put up a 2:05 my first time at T-hill in 750 Superbike in 1999 with no prior track time at thll, 1:59 on a r1 10 years later... sure, why not?

I don't think this story is any less amazing because he was on a 2006 R1. It's amazing because he had never been on a race track before. For most of us, no matter what bike you ride your first track day will be slow as shit. Would I be more impressed if he was on a 600 or something? Sure, but I'm still totally impressed as is.

Your example says your first time at T-hill was in an AFM race on a race prepped bike. Your experience level alone probably contributed more to that 2:05 than anything. Also, I'm sure you will agree that a race is a far different environment than a track day.

Ten years, 400 cc and you only picked up 6 seconds? You're going backward :rofl

who cares what he did. if he did a 59 good for him! he must be a fast learner. it took me a year until I got below the 2 minute mark, but just because someone else did does not mean that it is bs. There are people with natural talent for riding. I think a lot of you who are saying there is no way this guy did that time are just JEALOUS because you can't do it. I wish I would have been able to run that fast on my first track day, but I wasn't able to and just had to work a little bit harder to get down to that time.

And fast times for thill are
on a 600 1:50-1:53
sv's 1:57-2:02
FP 1:48-1:50

Those are very fast race times.

Just to let you know those SV are not stock. The top 3 guys in those classes have those built up big time. Besides there is a big difference between those racers that have thousands of laps each at T-Hill and a first time track rider.

None of those motors are over 80 HP factory pro. ( about 92 -94 dynojet HP) Your typical 650 twins racer with flatties and a pipe makes 68-72 HP factory pro, and a good SV racer can hit 2:01s at Thill without a problem. It's those last couple seconds that separate the men from the boys.

However, this new guy is very impressive.

I was at the first track day that the younger Sadowski went to at THill, and he was turning 2:11's on an R6. He and his brother are working their way through the professional ranks at this point. First time trackrider hitting a 1:59 as well as consistent 2:00 & 2:01's? That's a pretty tremendous feat, and certainly doesn't happen every day... (or to me, any day.

as ernie mentioned, im guessing he was a dirt rider. At 1:59s on a stock bike that thing HAD to be moving all over the place, I can only think a highly experienced dirt rider would be able to stomach/manage that. Either that or the dude is fearless and has balls of steel

Christ he's flying at 1:59 for his 'first day @ Thill'

My first time, ever, on a track (Thill) was 2:20. I'll be back out for lots more of course :party

Just asked my secretary - He's a terrible dirt bike rider. He is, however, a decent stunt rider, which I'm sure helps (bike control/etc).
