Flashbacks - Name the BARFer

I’m backing off for a bit, let folks catch up. This is the reason it’s important to attend rallies, least ups, and generally get to know your imaginary friends. BARF really is so much more than an on line forum.

#318 that guy who's not Plane Grey is Rich.....

something
So not to confuse others. Not Rich.

Yes we are a lot more than just a chat room. :thumbup

Seeing all these people in this thread certainly shows how many lives have been touched, friends made and good times shared. Wish we had the social aspect of the old days, but lives get busy and being old means hiding out at home a lot more. :laughing

I have a sh!ton of pics to go. :Port

BARF is one of my various motorcycle clubs. :p

I think he could deal, but when elevated in rank he had eyes on him so had to back out.
He was a big part of getting the first ever Lane Sharing Summit set up where quite a few barfers met in Sac to discuss it (That was after a bill was proposed to make it illegal and we thought we needed to address it). That launched into the Moto Safety Committee and getting the CHP to do the tracking and UC Berkeley study going. Unfortunately he retired from the committee before the study was concluded and we got into Assembly Member Quirks face to help adjust and guide the Bill.

And the Libmo Barf Bash of course. John was so damn solid of a motoman and human. One of the best.

I will always remember when we had a Livermore Motorcycle Safety Day at the Libmo PD station. His Captain looked at the BARF books and asked a question.

"I don't understand why all these people are flipping everyone off but have these huge smiles?"

That was classic :laughing
Great John story around 2008. He came down and picked up a spanking new ST1300 police bike to demo for a few days. I took him through how the controls were set up and "yeah yeah - I gotta go".
Adios & have fun!

On his way back to LivMo (from Hollister- 'bout hunnert miles) his radio, the one on his hip- not the bike radio- goes off with a bank robbery. So he kicks it up a notch or three and hauls the mail from about Sunol and Hwy 680. He got the red/blue lights on but couldn't figure out how to fire off the siren. Triple digits and paying attention to traffic and all the little switches is not a fun ride. Closest he got was getting the PA (public address) working and, John being John, made up his own siren noises as he rode. Whoop-whooop! Wheew-whew! Ergh ergh! Stop there, stop there, STOP! I'd a peed my pants seeing that. He made it- no harm no foul and he waited for the call to come to the Chief about it- it never came.

He was breeding vizsla's after he retired. We haven't spoken in years.

Been a few moons since I saw this guy in person.
