Why does side & rear visibility matter when you're lane splitting? If it's because you want to hang out alongside someone's driver window, you're doing it wrong.*Modulators only work for those who are ahead of your headlight. They do nothing for side and rear visibility. Flashers are all 4 corners of your bike.
So you're saying turn signals are ineffective? I'd have to disagree. I notice turn signals (or 4-way flashers) even in my mirrors. Now you can say modulators work better*, and even then, only in certain situations. Do modulators help people see you from the back?
But to say that flashers don't do anything without any credible evidence that supports that statement is just silly.

Good luck using your turn signals with flashers on.. get my driff? They are not meant for that. They are meant for emergencies. ie my bike has a flat so I need to turn on this Emergency switch as stated in the handbook, so I can warn drivers. This way I can safely pull off the road. Drivers will adjust their speed when they see me.
Instead I stupidly use my Emergency flashers because I am afraid other drivers will not see me. Its feels great for them to adjust speed for me, because I am on a motorcycle. Make sense?

Having your 4-way flashers on while lane-splitting isn't going to affect anyone negatively.. except certain people who get so annoyed by it for whatever reason.. prompting them to cry about it on an online forum. You have this crazy idea that people who ride with flashers, headlight modulators, high beams, loud pipes, etc.. have a certain disregard for riding defensively and safely. Why not do both? Does it bother you that much to see lights blinking? Why not look at it, appreciate you noticed it and that others might have as well, and carry on about your coffee-sipping-while-driving day? As stated earlier, there are A LOT worse riders and drivers alike out there than ones who ride with their flashers.
Are flashers not effective as modulators, or is it because you think it's tacky? Are we concerned about effectiveness or appearance? I'm just sincerely asking a question.
