Flashers while riding!!!

The flasher is a warning to people that means "I kind of don't know what the fuck i'm doing".

If that's true, then I should probably start using them.

*Modulators only work for those who are ahead of your headlight. They do nothing for side and rear visibility. Flashers are all 4 corners of your bike.

Why does side & rear visibility matter when you're lane splitting? If it's because you want to hang out alongside someone's driver window, you're doing it wrong.

So you're saying turn signals are ineffective? I'd have to disagree. I notice turn signals (or 4-way flashers) even in my mirrors. Now you can say modulators work better*, and even then, only in certain situations. Do modulators help people see you from the back?

But to say that flashers don't do anything without any credible evidence that supports that statement is just silly.

Good luck using your turn signals with flashers on.. get my driff? They are not meant for that. They are meant for emergencies. ie my bike has a flat so I need to turn on this Emergency switch as stated in the handbook, so I can warn drivers. This way I can safely pull off the road. Drivers will adjust their speed when they see me.

Instead I stupidly use my Emergency flashers because I am afraid other drivers will not see me. Its feels great for them to adjust speed for me, because I am on a motorcycle. Make sense?

Lol.. Because it would look like a very dramatic accident, when a sneaker is 30ft away from a down rider. Its likely that the heel will be one of the first things that impact. shoe flies off.

Im just sharing in a General forum... I ride my own ride. I also consider riders and when they use flashers im considerate enough to adjust my speed. So yes it is affecting me. If your so annoyed of my thread simply cry on another thread,.

There you go. Ride your own bike. My kid used to say, "It's so annoying" about everything. Finally, I asked him to stop saying that all the time, it makes him sound stupid and like a little kid, and he agreed.

Who cares if someone uses their flashers and high beams? It's those modulator dudes that are the real goobers here. Maybe when I'm 90 years old and a hazard to myself and others. Not before though.

Use flashers. Modulators. Loud pipes. Hi-Viz. Tennis shoes. 1/2 or 3/4 helmet. Fingerless gloves. Wear/use whatever you wish. We/I'm not paying your hospital bills. I'm not cleaning up the spooge out of the middle of the road.

Again, Ride your own bike. It's so annoying.

Modulators are cheap, and plug-n-play. So I'm not sure what the hesitation is.

Is it one of those things where young people are afraid they'll look like an old person? If so, that's dumb.

You know what else would improve your visibility? Attaching a megaphone on your bike that repeats "HEY EVERYBODY, I'M TRYING TO SPLIT LANES HERE!!" at 120 dB.

To me, using a modulator is following the law. Using flashers is not only breaking the law, but sending a message - "Hey, I'm breaking the law, but I don't care because I'm fucking special and you should take notice"

You have this crazy idea that people who ride with flashers, headlight modulators, high beams, loud pipes, etc.. have a certain disregard for riding defensively and safely. Why not do both? Does it bother you that much to see lights blinking? Why not look at it, appreciate you noticed it and that others might have as well, and carry on about your coffee-sipping-while-driving day? As stated earlier, there are A LOT worse riders and drivers alike out there than ones who ride with their flashers.



Are flashers not effective as modulators, or is it because you think it's tacky? Are we concerned about effectiveness or appearance? I'm just sincerely asking a question.

If using flashers has had such a positive effect on your commute, why not use them all the time everywhere you ride? Even though the CVC says you can only use them to alert other motorists of a hazard or if you're broken down, your impression is that it helps. After all, obeying a law that is directly tied to public safety, like traffic signals and cross walk pedestrian alerts (maybe they should flash all the time too) might just not fit in with your sensibilities.

Lets take it even further and contact a local representative and ask they sponsor a bill to make it mandatory! That way everybody will have to pay attention to motorcycles because no one will have any idea which way we're going to turn, if there's a real emergency/hazard or if we're going to turn at all!

OK, so I'm being a wise guy. Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine too. In the grand scheme of things maybe it's not really such a bad thing to do. But the issue at hand, like EVERY THING WE DO AS MOTORCYCLISTS, is how the PUBLIC PERCEIVES OUR ACTIONS. If we continually thumb our noses at these simple rules/laws that are in place for EVERYBODY to follow, what do think the ultimate conclusion to those actions is going to be? Lane splitting laws perhaps?

What's next, holding the horn button down until we reach our destination?
