For those who still have doubts about vaccine effectiveness

Perhaps you could avoid it in the Navy. In the Army, it wasn't an option. Actually, that's not entirely true. It technically was an option...that refusal of would result in a GOMOR and the end of your career. In other words, you just did it. No one I knew personally had any sort of serious reaction to it outside of a sore arm which many vaccines cause anyway. However, there's no way to look deeper into this since there are currently no peer-reviewed studies of long-lasting effects of the anthrax vaccine that I'm aware of.

As I have stated previously, I dodged the Anthrax vaccines on deployments 2006-2007. In 2008 I also managed to avoid it until my Command Master Chief walked me to the TMC for the shot, both times.
I didn’t want it for two reasons:
1. They said repeatedly that if you grow up on a farm, you are probably immune.
2. Absolutely no anthrax threat existed. It was a political talking point ruse against Saddam they felt they needed to continue with by making a big show of to the point of putting that shit into every GI.

I just googled this vaccine and it was stopped being given to the military entirely in 2004.

It wasn’t that you could avoid the mandatory vaccine, it’s just I was a crafty fellow in my career. But like I said, I finally got caught. The first shot was not noticable at all. The second one my arm swelled up big time. I distinctly remember the medic entering that he “administered into deltoid” and I told him if he thought the long head of the tricep was a deltoid, he needed to re-attend A&P school.

Funny how people try to tell you how you experienced your own existence.

Apparently this is all in my mind.

From your beloved internet:

I know we are supposed to exercise civility here but if you can call me a liar, I should be able to call you a fucking idiot, with impunity.

What measure of proof that I (we) recieved this vaccine should I provide to show that you are not only wrong, but insulting some of us who have been on BARF a while and not exactly known as dishonest?

If I provide this proof, will you leave BARF and not come back? Because your credibility, if you ever had any, will be nil.

Sure, provide the proof and I'll never come back, of course of course.

Incorrect.

Beyond that, can you orient me to the post where he called you a liar?

Post #382. This same page like 5 posts above your query. For that matter, he was calling Korn a liar too since he also was talking about getting the vaccine.

Presenting information that differs from yours <> calling you a liar. Please learn the difference and don't respond by calling names.

If that’s how you interpreted it you shouldn’t be a mod.
Quoting me and saying the direct opposite of what I experienced is calling me a liar.

Anyone else read this differently?

Reads like you're jumping too quickly to "he called me a liar" and "you shouldn't be a mod". Andy's a cool dude and who cares if a stranger on the interwebs suggests something that you know isn't true. Military teaches confidence, yes? An overreaction conveys a lack of it. If you know you're right, then be cool and confident. :thumbup

Could be referencing the federal suit where a judge made the DOD stop the anthrax vaccine program in 2004 or the fact that it was only given to "certain troops" after it was restarted but IDK. Maybe he's a fucking liar.

All I know is that anything that "ended in 2004" in the military just makes me look (and feel) fucking old. :laughing

The military doesn’t teach confidence. Confidence is something you develop personally.
The military and I, before, after and now are big on integrity. If someone directly calls your integrity questionable, it is tantamount to being called a liar.
This isn’t about differing opinions. It is me commenting on a few other comments about the anthrax vaccines, giving my actual experience and someone making a post, with zero substance, disputing, rather, to impune my experience.
If because this is just the interwebs and nothing really matters, then barf isn’t the place I once thought it was.I thought we were better than that.

Calling me or implying that I am a liar is the highest form of a personal insult. Calling me a thief is probably the only thing that eclipses being called a liar.

There are other possibilities but you went right to liar.

In any case, he didn’t directly call names and I hope that’s a distinction you can understand.

Agree. I didn't say he was a liar in any way; I only posted something I read on the internet, without too much concern or forethought, that disagreed with his post.

Surprised that it generated such a high level of righteous indignation.

My apologies to those offended.
