so i have this project bike, and i want to upgrade the forks. this is a want thing, not a need thing.

i'm pretty bored with the USD-forks-pasted-onto-a-vintage-bike look, but i want something beefier and adjustable with good brakes nonetheless.

cbr900rr is my ideal since the steering bearings are the same as my project bike, but they're proving hard to find.

955i era triumph daytona/speed triple also has the right aesthetic but bearings don't match up. that can be overcome if necessary.

they both seem to be 45mm fork tubes so that's a good search criteria... what other motorcycles have 45mm fork tubes, NOT usd (conventional?), disk brakes, adjustable for at least compression and rebound?

Maybe your drz forks? (lowered of course)

03-04 600rr forks are 45mm and the head bearings are the same as the 900rr.

GSXR 600 pre USD are also 45mm. I think 2003 and older.

p.s. I have a 955i Daytona front end for sale

edit: I think that 03-04 600rr front is the best match if it's long enough for your project.

I have some 03 r6 forks.. Free for anyone

I find it hard to believe someone won't give you a set of CBR900RR forks. They are out there.

Has to be 45mm? Yamaha R6S is 43mm and prolific since they've been making that bike since 2003 (originally as the R6).

humm. found your ad in classifieds. i may get in touch if i can get bigger ID bearings for the wheel i'll be using.

they're a little rare these days apparently.

that was my original plan and i have pretty much completed the Rough Draft of that scenario. i am abandoining that path because no matter what i do i think i'll be lacking braking capability with the drz, having only one rotor.

in large part i'm after the look of the daytona and 900rr forks. the tube has an "as machined" surface i find neato and NEATO is a design requirement. i just kinda realized that looking through the various suggestions here. so 45mm isn't a hard and fast requirement, it is a side effect so far.

If I remember reading, at least the first gen 900rr forks weren't true USD forks? If I am wrong I know I'm gonna get flamed. :(

what is a non-true USD fork?
they is, or they isn't.

cbr900rr forks are all Standard aka traditional aka nonUSD aka rightsideup? forks.

flames? nah. no wheelieing cops in this thread.

Gotcha. Yeah, I know exactly the look you mean and I agree it is neato. The new/updated VFR800 has that look (and radial mount brakes to boot!) if you can find a salvaged one. Rare, but it at least expands the search.

Also, they'll be even more rare than the VFR forks, but if you can find 'em Paioli and Ceriani made works of art in right-side-up forks, as did Ohlins.

2014 VFR (I think 45mm):

Piaoli (I think 48mm):

Those are all awesome posibilities, the vfr in particular.because it uses the same head bearings. Gotta love honda....

none even listed on ebay though, but these paiolis are

is that real carbon fiber on the sliders? Not in the budget unfortunately, nor would be the ohlins or ceriani though in would love to see the head explosions if I managed to find and install either

I applaud your commitment to your vision.

accumulating all of the desired bits, pieces & assemblies
greatly increases the likelihood of your desired M/C outcome

my own personal project [a '70s Azn-bike-based tribute to a failed '60s Euro prototype]
is absolutely defined by its individual, period-specific components

you go !!

OP, not exactly sure what makes a fork that physically looks like an upside down fork not an upside fork other than maybe the internals? All I know is what I read and they didn't give an explanation.

I have a spare set of G1K fork legs (02') if you end up going that way.
