I've test ridden Hardleys, Kawi's and today the Triumph SpeedMaster. Goddamn I hate the sitting in a Barcalounger feeling. It's like being completely detached from the motorcycle. You just sit there and work the controls, fooking weird. And the wind and noise, jeebus. But I did find out that the Bonnie is not the completely gutless MC that I thought it would be. And also that the Thruxton has a more neutral riding position than I was led to believe.........OK, Ducati Monster EVO, Kawasaki Z1000, Triumph Bonnie T100se or Thruxton......the list narrows for the inevitable changing of the guard from sprotbile to something humane. I'm sure others will pop up on the list and be discarded before the purchase in a couple of years, but you got to work your options. I'm somewhat looking forward to not having to down 3 Advil luiqi-gels before I ride.

I dont mind the foot forward controls as much as the feeling of being so far away from the front wheel.

Went to the Triumph shop a few years back determined to get a ride on the Street Triple R but got distracted by the absolutely gorgeous Bonnies and Thruxtons.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your Bonnie test ride.

I like rocking some forward controls occasionally, makes you a well rounded rider.

:laughing If you're serious, please stop sniffing the glue. Forward controls teach you nothing but how absolutely fucking boring motorcycle riding can be.

You were at the demo day at Harley/Kawi/Triumph Santa Maria weren't you?

Ya, the Thruxton changed their clip-ons to low bars, so the seating is more neutral. Not as much power s the duc sport classic though

Street Triple R or a Bonnie would be my vote. The Street Triple R is what the Bonnie was when the Bonnie came out. So Bonnie for more mellow, StripleR for more spunk (sprotbike calibre). Both comfy easy fun rides! Z1000 got great reviews but I haven't been on one. I bias Truimph and BMW over Jap, but that's the Jap bike I'd try were I so inclined.

something about the thruxton makes me think i'll own one when i'm old

They reminded me of the old wood track bikes, where they would just rotate the handle bars around until they were in a down position. Actually kinda cool looking.

And yeah, the demo day at Santa Maria. And I got to bomb Foxen and Santa Rosa both ways and didn't have hardly any traffic slow up. AND more importantly, a big ZERO LEO presence. Didn't see a one anywhere, all day. and then after I got home I rolled my scooter to *$'s for a $2 frap, and did some grocery shopping. The little top box on the scoot comes in handy. :thumbup Total 2 wheel day.

Forward controls and cruiser riding positions completely suck and are total compromises in the name of fashion.

I have to disagree. A cruiser can be a cool ride when you just want to check out the scenery and in no big hurry.

My Yamaha V-Star cruiser with floorboards had that feeling until I sent the seat out to be cut down. Added some pull-back risers and adjusted the bars back, and it was a totally different bike. I sat lower in the seat which changed the CG, which made it feel you were part of the bike rather then sitting on top of a rolling barcolounger. It would have been even better with forward controls but I liked the floorboards more.
