Freeze Out gear?

For your hands,
I like my heated grips because I can adjust them on the fly and around here you can start in the valley at 60 and have it be below 40 at Alice's. It's nice to be able to turn on/up the heat as you travel. My grips have a rheostat 0 to 10.

I have never tried a heated vest, maybe some day.

I notice that as I turn up the grips the heat travels up into my forearms.
It may be all in my head but the returning warmer blood feels like it helps keep my core warmer.

Are the Freeze-Out pant base layers enough better than a standard pair of long-johns to be worth the extra money?

Cotton is a shit base layer. Go to an REI like place and get synthetic or merino wool base layer.

I agree that heated grips are the BEST $ you could ever spend on your m/c.

You can buy an inexpensive set for $29 from Cycle Gear.

Buy a nice fleece jacket to wear beneath your gear. You can also get a balaclava to keep your neck and head warm.

I'm slowly adjusting to sub-40 degree weather riding and it's really not that bad overall but my hands are in pain from the cold by the time I arrive at my destination.Of course cold is relative to the bay area. And I know, back east you were riding in negative 30 degree celsius weather both ways up hill in a tanktop! :afm199

Is the freeze out stuff (glove liner &base layers) worth the money? Should I just get heated grips instead?

:ride

I recently got the long johns, foot liners, balaclava and glove liners for my daily ride form SJ to Oakland. Def worth the money, prop on sale at most places right now so good time to stock up. i also recommend the sock liners for toes, i know after 40 mi i cant feel toes or fingers w/o the Freeze Out. With them on, ill start sweating before the bike warms up, then still temperate after i get on the highway.
