So anyone else watch this movie yet? I tried to watch it on Sunday and the line was out the door. I don't particularly like sitting shoulder to shoulder in a crowded theater fighting for the armrest. So I went to see it yesterday afternoon, theater still half full and but I got a great middle aisle seat and had both armrests.

I'm really bummed about Paul Walker's death, from all I've heard he was a solid dude and really down to earth. I thought the tribute for him was done just right and a great way to possibly end the franchise.
RIP Paul :rose

As for the movie, I thought it was awesome. Just as good and better than Furious 6. I was one of those teens when the first one came out. And yes I was one of those revving my engine peeling out of the theater parking lot afterwards lol.
If they do make another Fast n Furious it just wouldn't be the same without Brian OConner. I was surprised they were able to complete this one with him in it all the way. IMO, it was a perfect ending to a great franchise. Much like the American Pie movies, I'll have fond memories of and always watch replays whenever flipping through the channels.

I scarcely know anything about the series, cept that it had a big influence on the brotitude of the youngsters in my neighborhood. They all got pretty jazzed about Fight Club, and Eight Mile, too. One of them lent me his VOR, and I let him try my Speed Triple. Good kidz..
Mick LaSalle dissed the commemorative aspects as 'creepy'...I thought it fit in just fine. It aint Shakespeare, but Shakespeare never drove a Veyron (Lambo?) thru you know how many you know whats.

yeah, I revved around too. I liked it. used to have a 69 Chevelle that went as good sideways as forward.:laughing

I am surprised this thread took this long to come up. I watched it at the first showing in my area. It didn't sell out, which I was also found surprising. I thought it was a good "Hollywood" action movie and it fits the rest of the series (except 3/Tokyo drift) with increasing budgets and more special effects. I was disappointed with how small a part 3 played in the overall storyline, but with the death of Paul Walker it seemed like they changed the essence of what 7 probably was. The ending was fitting and a good tribute.

I thought the production values and writing were more Chinese than Hollywood, with a nod to Kurosawa. Not a diss...just as it is. Kurt Russell, anybody see Grindhouse?, was the the only real actor on the set. Vins passing of the godseye to him, with the implied possiblity of betrayal, thanks! kill them...seemed to me to be one of the more complex moments of the film. jmho

The franchise is so preposterous that I can barely care. But when it hits the HBO or whatever, I'm sure I'll give it a try. I watch Riddick as its on seemingly 24/7 anymore. Oh yeah, and the Rock is in it, right? I like the Rock.

And I always feel sad about Walker. Seemed like a nice dude.

It was as good as part 6!!!! No way bro!

Wife dragged me to see this movie, she liked it, I found myself cringing many times, the movie is cartoonish (even more so than the previous movies in this franchise) and overly sentimental, and that's before the send-off to Walker at the end, which I thought was appropriate. A couple good action sequences were the only redeeming aspect of this film, and the sequence with the minigun is not among them, Predator did a better job using a minigun, though both instances were equally unrealistic. Yeah, I know, "realism" from these movies. But still ...

Don't waste your money, wait until it's show for free on TV.

is what it is.

I tend to follow process rather then result with movies. They are all made by some people fucking around and having fun and finding someone else to pay for it. sometimes plot driven, sometimes character driven, sometimes cult.
remains of the day I thought was a good movie. so was the apostle. so was furious 7, and gravity. all depends on how the producers want to market the identifications, and how well they did that. 7 ended up speaking to the death of someone you really loved. good theme. who cares if was a cartoon?

I liked the tie-in scenes that linked almost all of the previous 6 into the one. Other than that, to see the franchise moving toward action and drug/guns/hot-thing-to-fight-against-in-hollywood-this-season shit, is just flat out fucking lame.

I'm absolutely SICK of media and government forcing shit down our throats. Removing the "Street racing" this franchise was founded on, and forcing bad guys to work with good guys, and dramatizing it ruined the franchise.

Good points.

I was entertained. Some lines were major cheeseball but that was expected. Movie did pay homage to its roots a bit BUT like Diezel said, no longer is it about the close knight street racing. Had to go the drugs or terror route.

There's gonna be an 8 and it's going to take place in New York.

One thing I cant take from films like this is the cities getting destroyed like it nothing. 'Yay, Dom Torreto lived, but what about the $500 million in damage to the city' :laughing

If the franchise just stayed as street racing and didn't branch out, there's no way it would have made it this far.
