So Geico wants to charge me $224 a year for my 2012 Ducati 848 coarse SE
and $1400 a year for my 2015 FZ-07. They tell me that my duc is a sport bike and my FZ is a high performance bike:mad To top it off I want to add a grom to the mix and they want to add another $700 to my premium:mad:mad
BTW this is all full coverage
That being said, can anybody recommend an insurance carrier that knows what the fuck high performance means?

Probably because most insurance company's underwriting guidelines use 650cc is a place where they start bumping up rates. at least...that's how it was when I sold insurance at State Farm, Farmers and Foremost.

any way you can get USAA?

What they said to you was just some BS answer. The REAL reason why the premium is so much is because FZ-07/FZ-09 riders tend to crash their bike A LOT. Part of the reason is because FZ-07/09s are a lot of bike for the money. The "perfect" price point for new riders. A lot are not skilled enough to handle such torque from either bike. That, plus add in the lackluster suspension and you're bound to have a pool of crashees.

Insurance (full) on my Diavel through Geico is ~$1300 and it's a hell of a lot more bike than a FZ-07... Could be classified as a cruiser :rolleyes though so that might be a factor.

I thought it was also based on that statistics and typical demographic for that bike. I know it was cheaper for me to insure a Ducati 1098 vs a CBR1000RR. I'm guessing Duc owners are typically a little older and maybe more conservative :afm199 (crash less :teeth)???

Is on a primary vs a secondary vehicle?

Damn right. Us Duc riders are overall more mature and simply better riders than everyone else.

Not many accidents happening in the Starbucks parking lot :twofinger

At first I was like "wow, this guy is huffing that Ducati exhaust hard" but then I read the second line.

Love people with good sportsmanship and humor. Carry on, good sir.

Doest that 848 have abs? It seems to drop the insurance price about 20% vs the same bike without abs.

The most expensive bike I have shopped insurance for is the fz-09. No abs and I guess lots of claims. My sf 848 was about 50% cheaper to insure. I guess the fz-07 is in the same dilemma as the fz 09

Always a wise move to call and get the insurance rate before making purchase....

+1

And the statistics on the particular bike does play a large role in rating. Not sure that demographic is a big factor, as much as number of bikes on the road of that model which would of course produce many more losses to the insurance company. With State Farm who I have had forever, I always gathered that they started with the cc size only many years ago but have been noticing more and more lately the term "rating group change" when I just got hit with an increase on my cbr1000. With full coverage on all, and all the same deductibles, my 2014 Busa is $89 per month, the 2015 CBR1000RR is $75 and the 2014 Ducati Panigale R is $51. The big problem with State Farm is although they offer a multi line discount, they don't offer a multi bike discount, so you pay their full rate on each one. Boo.

You might try a 1000 dollar deductible. I have max limits and my rates are really cheap even for my new GSX-S1000. I'm with Progressive.

I pay more to geico for my 02 Hayabusa then I do my wife brand new victory and my Arles ness custom chopper combined! I have no clue why since the values of both bikes are about 6x of what my busa is. It's a scam and sucks but what are you going to do

https://learningcenter.statefarm.com/auto/vehicle-rating.html

Try using this Moto ranking tool from State Farm. It ranks them from A to E, where "A" is "Vehicle premiums significantly lower than standard premiums" and "E" is "Vehicle premiums significantly higher than standard premiums".

For example an R1 is all E/E/E and FZ09 is C/C/A; my Versys is A/B/A, my GS is A/A/A.

you can

Sell me the 848 and you keep the hi performance bike?:thumbup:teeth
I'll only take it off your hands if its not red!:p
