Gen Z Ride 10/19/25

Welcome to group rides.
Yeah, honestly once you get more than, like, 5 you should just file for a parade permit. Wrangling many riders is the proverbial herding cats. Everything takes forever.

So much better to be a small enough group so that you can get a quick road shoulder huddle, get a quick consensus on changes to the plan that are needed, and press on. Rather than pulling over because the lead forgot to buckle his helmet and have half the group pull over behind him and the other half press on ahead.....with the sweep becoming the reluctant lead. Then when the lead tries to get back to the front riders think they're wicking up the pace and start riding over their heads or getting stressed out because "WhY IS EVERY ONE RIDING LIKE THEY HAVE TO GET A KIDNEY TO THE ER!!??!!"

IMO… six is good. If you have a bunch of folks tis better to break into small groups. I also am of the keep track of your pal behind you. If they are no longer appearing in your mirrors go find them…

Agreed, being able to split into groups of 2-3 where everyone's comfortable with the pace is huge

An alternative to a long group ride is to choose a good road for motos and do laps back and forth. Big sweeping turns, no intersections, no traffic lights.

Pick a meeting/starting point and just hang out for a couple of hours while riders join, run some laps and leave when they want.
One such road near me is Altamont Pass Road in Livermore but there are many more.
