Genesis. Cars not the band.

I've been telling people for years now that the Genesis Sedan is the easiest, cheapest, and most reliable way to get into a "luxury" car. If you can live without RWD, the step below that would be Mazda.

Of course the majority of people who buy German are doing so for the badge.

Hyundai/Genesis makes some cool stuff. Seems like most of it is a generation behind in terms of technology and refinement of the Japanese.

Also, despite vast improvements in quality and desirable offerings, I wouldn't want to have to sell one on the used market.

Oh hell no, but if you're not the type of person who goes through cars every few years, and hold onto them for 5+ they are a screaming deal in terms of value for money.

I almost bought a used G80 a couple years ago but went for a used LS460 instead...mainly because the Lexus was a better deal but the G80 with the 5.0 Ultimate package is a damn good car.

Lotus did the chassis and suspension for the G80 and a top guy from BMW did it on the G90 fyi. These cars are legit imo.

Lotus also tuned the Dodge Spirit RT

Probably if I get to 200k in my Dodge without crashing it, I will be looking at my 3rd transmission. :laughing

trans grenaded in my dodge 6 weeks after I bought it.

it only had 80K miles on it.

Fuck that piece of shit car.

Manufacturers pay Lotus to make slight changes to an already in house designed suspension then slap a Lotus Designed tag on it. Been happening since forever. Not sure why Lotus carries so much weight.

It’s tough not to compare my TLX to the G70. But I shouldn’t. My Acura is a FWD based sedan with ho hum performance. The Genesis is RWD based with quite a bit more power and Brembo brakes. My Acura can take a twisty road remarkably well (the rear steering really helps “shrink” the car) for a front driver. But I know driving dynamics of a rear drive layout will be much better unless Hyundai absolutely cocked up the suspension. The Genesis G70 shares its platform with the Kia Stinger, so it probably is fine on that front. Then there’s matter that an Acura TLX is around $10k cheaper than the Genesis G70.

A better comparison would be the G70 against the Infiniti G...50 is it? Whatever the G35 became. Better since they’re both RWD based and can have a potent engine with Brembo brakes. But the Genesis was all new last year, while the Infiniti in its current iteration has been around for way too long.

Not entirely sure I’d compare the G70 to the Lexus IS. The IS just seems like it’s a smaller car, though I know they are supposedly direct competitors.

not surprised by hyundai, they have been steadily improving since the late 90s.

what i am surprised is Buick Porsche VW and Lincoln are so high on the list, I bet their annual total vehicle sales # dont even add up to say Fords truck/car/van segments

some horrible set of data stats - which everyone always says JD power is always bullshit and doesnt apply....I kinda agree there, get in any porsche and click to see if everything works

I own a Jeep, but I knew what I was getting in to when I bought it.

Shockingly, Chrysler offered (offers still I think) a full boat, factory, LIFETIME extended service plan for it, and I bought it for $2K when I bought the jeep. It didn't cover a piece of trim that popped off the side, but it covers pretty much everything else.

With recent air conditioning shenanigans (which tend to be labor intensive), I think it finally paid off.

But, I love the car. It's an amazing car. The service plan is a security blanket.

careful there, fiat offered lotsa lifetime warranties right around 09-13?? when they bought the ram/jeep brand from chrysler and rebranded it themselves as fca.

you should google the problems ppl have, some have no issues with their warranties, some have major issues - like your oil change was 1 mile late to change = warranty denial (its very hit/miss - how well your service advisor likes you)

Also what you bought is not a warranty but a "service contract" with stipulations you have to comply to. It sux because on forums some guy will post up using my lifetime warranty 260k miles in 2nd motor no questions asked, and a reply will be yea my vin/extended service got blacklisted because i used a knn air filter.

Yeah I know. As mentioned earlier, there’s still a “perception” about the Korean stuff that they haven’t shaken yet. I’m sure that kills their resale. Plus I believe that Hyundai does fleet sales (rental cars) which absolutely kills resale values.

So long story short, my highly subsidized Acura lease, I’ll be letting my wife have when her Audi lease is up. I sure as shit ain’t going to daily the ZR1, so I’ll be on the hunt in a handful of months. But right now, I’m all over the place. Sedan, luxury sedan, hatchback (Civic), full size truck, wait for the Bronco....yeah I don’t really know what I want yet.

You gonna buy new? Lease new? Used consideration? What's the mission of the second car? All around second vehicle for you? (Primary, I mean). There's some neat stuff on bargain that's used...how many miles a year will you put on this thing?

I just can’t do used. I know people love to laugh at fools like me who take a bath on depreciation while they swoop in and buy it on the cheap after I trade it in or whatever. But I’ve said this before. I gotta be the first one. I gotta know the vehicle was cared for the right way right off the rip. I gotta know that some slob hasn’t been farting in the seat for thousands of miles before me. Quite honestly, my neurosis goes so deep, that if it were possible, I’d go to the assembly plant and build the thing myself all the way down the line so I know for sure it got built right.

It’ll be the daily driver/grocery getter. 12-14000 miles a year. So I could go lease. Though there doesn’t seem to be a lot of incentive from Hyundai on that front and their residuals are shit. The 2.9% over 60months for purchase they’re offering isn’t half bad.

This may be all spinning my wheels for nothing. Things may unfold in the next couple weeks that may have me toeing a different company line (which includes a company car), so we’ll just see what we’ll see.

The IS is a midget of a car on the inside. Dudes as big as you or me barely fit without slouching and with the seat far enough back for adequate leg room, there’s less than 6 inches from the rear seat cushion to the front seat back.

That’s why we traded it towards that MDX, which we love. Our car seat wouldn’t fit in the back even with my wife sitting in front of it, and she’s only 5’5”.....

I agree that the JD Power initial quality study is fairly worthless. But this one is for three year old vehicles. Which yeah, we know the European stuff usually can make it that far without falling apart. So there’s still some bullshit here.

I’d love it if there was a survey for 6+ year old vehicles where we know that brittle trim Porsche uses starts cracking apart, or those plastic BMW coolant fittings start giving up, or the LED segments in those VW/Audi gauges start checking out. But since many of those are leased, it’s hard to get a survey past three years of ownership.

Yeah an IS is not a winner for car seats. That was a smart trade up. Haven’t forgotten about the hybrid for your folks. They just aren’t coming in on preowned.

Side note. My old GM actually crammed a car seat in the back of a GT350 and rocked that for a year. Sold his wife on letting him get the Shelby since it did have a back seat and the car seat fit. Some sick priorities there.

:thumbup Love it!

My buddy at work has a 2018 Charger Hellcat that his lease is coming up on. His buy out is only going to be around $32k and we’ve agreed that he will buy it out for $32k and I’ll directly buy it from him. Booom! 707hp family hauler with 15k miles for $32k!!!

Just gotta talk the wifey into it....

Wow now that is a really shit residual. That lose about what...over 55% of value in only two years? My god. Welp, his loss is your gain.

Hope the CFO green lights you. The blower whine on those things is addicting. I don’t get any of that in my car and I’m a bit jelly that the Mopar peeps get it in spades.

I wish I didn't hate my Mopar. I wanted it so badly, too.

Nothing but problems, CELs, and now apparently some kind of transmission whine or something since the rebuild.

Fuck that car.
