The thing was more than enough for that track, and if my skills were more up to par I would be railing even more. I was passing sportbikes no problem.... I even lapped this one guy on a 03' GSXR 1000 4 times in one 20 min session

Lost my friend who was following me a few times, but he caught up on the straights (08 CBR1k)

I hope one day you re-read this post and laugh about how slow you were, and how you used to compare yourself against other trackday riders (I've been there)

690SM's are a little on the lardy side but are capable of doing the Sierras if you don't have plans to attend Homotoclub events right after a ride. The Pirelli Scorpion Trails work really well on the street and surprisingly well in the dirt for such a wimpy looking tire.

Strange timing on the bump, got my 690 just shy of 3 years ago. Not a great all purpose bike but hard to beat on Ham or other goat trails and gets 50 MPG as a bonus. If only the tyres would last as long the oil and filter change interval, hell I'd settle for half as long.

I must be riding my 690 like a little old lady. I'm on my third oil change and about to replace the original tire with the same one (pic) after 4000miles. I don't like changing tires so I try to make them last.

I got the 17's to make it a tard but its more handy as an enduro.

It's difficult to take pics of yourself when your back wheel is coming 'round
