Getting a used track suit

Hello,

I'm looking to possibly try a track day soon. I was wondering, if I don't do track days often, would it be more practical to get a 2 piece over a 1 piece? Also, between a cheaper older model Dainese suit (2000s, $350) and a newer model Dainese suit (2010+)$500), is there much of a difference?

I'm unsure whether I will be committing to track so I don't want to invest too much yet. Please pm me if you have a suit you would like to sell to me. I'm about size 42 (U.S. 6) 35-29-38. 29 inseam, 5'4" tall.

2 piece
However I am selling an Arlenness size 40 tracksuit that might fit although may be too small for 38 hips. If you want to try for size let me know :)

Hey guys,

I picked up a 2 piece from BARF for $350. Older suit, but I think it fits me well. Looks a bit outdated (came out 2001?), but in good condition and it matches my bike color. It doesn't have a slot for a back protector insert however.

Any recommendations for a back protector for me? I know most back protectors are male-oriented.

Forcefield makes good armor and available in plenty of sizes. They have women's sizes and even have a youth size that would be good for a small adult

Bohn
These are great prices for them. I might buy another one with chest protector just for the hell of it. Look in the close outs: They have a small there in a very good model. I think it will be too small for you, but I don't really know.

Unfortunately they don't offer the racer model that I have, anymore. It is quite the piece and covers shoulder blades, wraps around the back ribs and completely covers the tailbone. It's my highspeed go-to.
Knox
These people make good stuff, too. This is more "normal" pricing, imo. I have a piece from them.

EDIT: P.S. You may not want one that is too long if you are going to wear it with the two-piece. It can be awkward to get the tail of the back-protector into the pants, when you stop and take off the top. It's doable with longer ones. I am just making you aware of a potential inconvenience.

Right now a toss up between Forcefield Pro L2 and Pro Sub4 and a used Helimot online. Also the women's Knox. Any feedback on the Helimot back protectors? One size fits all?

The Bohns don't come in my size. :( Considering the women's Knox.

I recently went with the Sub4. Out of all the ones I've researched it has been proven to transmit the least amount of energy.
In my opinion, back protectors are gender neutral. It's the chest protectors where you'd want to select based on gender.

Just a little fyi, once you start doing track days, they can be addictive
You've been warned :teeth

Helimots Rock and I think they come in sizes. I love my Knox. I didn't like Bohn as it pressed on all my previously broken bones and made it uncomfortable.
The best back protectors protect your scapula and tailbone, not just your spine. But clutch is right that too long or too high makes it awkward and uncomfortable. :)

Consider taking z2s road rider 2.0 as the perfect intro to track days.

.

If it's true that it's been proven, that's cool as that should definitely be the goal: absorb or transfer energy to prevent injury or fractures without contributing to the actual broken bones. :thumbup

Any links?

Of what I've researched (and by research meaning spending a lot of time reading/watching revzilla reviews), the Sub4 and the Tryonic Feel 3.7 have the lowest kilonewtons transferred to the body. (CE1 standard is 18 kN, CE2 is 9kN.) This revzilla video says that the above two back protectors are the only on the market that are below 4 kN transfer. The Sub4 is at 3.38kN, the Tryonic is at 3.7. However, the Tryonic is for single impact only, whereas the Forcefield can see repeated impacts without having to be replaced.

Hey caroline,

I use a forcefield chest and back combo for racing. Just a heads up, It's microwave hot. Too hot for all day use.:afm199

I run a forcefield back protector and love it. Hot or cold, I wear it all day without an issue.

I have tried a few other brands and they feel more bulky than the forcefield which will meld to you nicely.

you can check with Zooni Leathers or others to see if they have a "loaner" suit available

I've crashed tested my Knox race version ( with butt bone protection ) more times than I care to admit .. and it has saved my butt over and over again. Highly recommended.

I did similar research to what you did, and was sold on Tpro due to the effectiveness at transmitting energy and the multi-impact factor. I've been very happy with it. It's stiff at first, but after you wear it/sweat in it a few times, it conforms to your body and becomes very comfortable. It's fine at hot days. I've had some minor and one big crash, and it's protected me well.

For my track leathers, I have a chest protector and a back protector that I wear together. At your size, the Small adventure harness might fit you, and those are a nice once-piece zip-up solution to back, chest, and rib protection.

This is a long way of saying - go to Johnson, they'll hook you up. Bring your leathers, and they can determine if they can add a back pad pocket, or if you should get separate armor for underneath.

Which Forcefield did you get? The Sub4? Does the Harness fit under existing shoulder armor or do you take it out?

After reading into tailoring leathers after your suggestion of Johnson's, I am considering going there or going to Zooni (since I am in South Bay), and having my leathers looked at to see if I need them adjusted.

If you use Zooni, Juan the owner can come to your house to take the measurements. Then once he's done with it, will drop it off at your place as well.

I've used him twice and highly recommend him.

I bought mine before the Sub4 came out, but it's basically what the Sub4 was at the time - the top Level 2 back protector.

It's case by case. M'boy has the harness, and some of his leathers have existing armor, some don't, so he removes the harness armor for the former and leaves it in for the latter. I had Johnson remove the existing shoulder armor from my one-piece and put in Tpro. Again, it's one of those 'whatever works best for you' - there's flexibility in options.

Honestly, Johnson's is IMO worth the trip. They're the US distributor of Tpro, so they have all of the shizz on hand to give you a variety of options. They also have facilities on hand to do alterations (they make custom suits, as well).[/QUOTE]

Call Road Rider in SJ and ask if they have women's T-Pro in stock. If they do, go by and try one on. If it fits, buy it. Quality stuff, no need to over-think it. :thumbup
