Getting COVID doesn’t create immunity but a manufactured vaccine does?

Seriously. I think we had lots of conspiratorial / anti-authority type influences through music, TV and movies (x-files AMIRITE?) that sowed the seeds of distrust. I guess combine that with being relatively formative when it comes to the age of social media and us genX-ers were poorly positioned.

I also think a lot of people in gen X were economically displaced and are drawn to manipulation centered around blaming others.

Probably true. A portion of the population seems to get drawn to the pied piper presenting them with the bogeymen (and women) who are responsible for all of the woes in their life and this country. It's always easier for people to blame others than admit that there is something lacking in themselves for their situation. That seems to be made worse by the evolution of what is perceived as a good life, there is much more emphasis on titles and ownership of the newest iphone or bigger TV or other trappings of $$$$$ to show that you're somebody to admire.

There have always been people who believe in conspiracies, and alternative versions of reality. Even before there was the internet.

I used to be into conspiracy theories when I was in middle school and watched The X-Files all the time :laughing

But I grew up.

I haven't really been keeping up with this thread, but looking at the last few replies, I thought this was relevant: https://www.openculture.com/2022/02...lio-vaccine-when-history-keeps-repeating.html

at the very least, it's a short and interesting read.

Can't say it better than Bobus1964 said in the comments of that article:

The polio vaccine stopped you from contacting Polio.

The Covid vaccine merely decreases the symptoms if you contact Covid. It does not stop infection or spreading of Covid

If the Polio vaccine acted like the Covid vaccine, you could get polio numerous times with lesser effects each time

The Polio vaccine was a true vaccine . The Covid vaccine is based on gene therapy.

This article is a totally Apples vs Oranges comparison .

From this week.

People who are not vaccinated against Covid-19 are 97 times more likely to die from Covid-19 than people who are vaccinated and boosted, according to data presented Wednesday by US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

“Vaccination and booster doses substantially decrease the risk of death from Covid-19,” Walensky said at a White House COVID-19 Response Team briefing while presenting data collected the week ending December 4.

“The number of average weekly deaths for those who are unvaccinated was 9.7 per 100,000 people, but only 0.7 per 100,000 people for those who were vaccinated.

This means the risk of dying from Covid-19 was 14 times higher for people who were unvaccinated compared to those who received only a primary series.

For those who were boosted, the average of weekly deaths was 0.1 per 100,000 people, meaning that unvaccinated individuals were 97 times more likely to die compared to those who were boosted.”

That little essay isn't really comparing the vaccines though, is it? It's showing the parallels of conspiratorial, anti-science, anti-vax thinking, then and now.

That is great news for vaccinated.
Also good news for me, I am less like to die than year ago. My odds are getting better and better as time goes by :)

Wait for the next Variant even though that is being downplayed at the moment.

I'm open to considering the jab once all safety data has been released, it's been in circulation for 5-7 years, and all collected data is made available to the public. Only at that point can I make an educated decision whether the risk/reward is worth it. Why? Because I believe in the scientific method.

So please explain how me believing the above makes me anti-vax, anti-science, and conspiratorial?

Wait for the next Variant even though that is being downplayed at the moment.

Thanks to all the vaccinated people for allowing this virus to move from person to person freely, which is causing all of these new variants.

Vaccinated Bob carries and spreads the virus but doesn't know it because he has little to no symptoms. Also, because he's vaccinated, he can go to work with the rest of the vaccinated people and spread it to them (who will also catch and spread the virus because, again, they have little to no symptoms). Unvaccinated Mary gets the virus, stays home, and isolates with flu-like symptoms. Only after recovering does she go back to her daily routine. She spread the virus to nobody and therefore did not contribute to creating new variants. Science rules!

What risk are you referring to?

Longest that 97x number grows up with new variant I am in good shape. If that number goes down I will start to worry.

What risk are you referring to?

The risk of side effects like myocarditis and blood clots? After months of claiming there are literally zero side effects to the shot (which would be a fucking miracle considering every single medical procedure carries the risk of side effects, including taking 200MG of ibuprofen for a headache), even CNN is now admitting that those side-effects are possible.

Is this from the same meeting where she couldn’t say what percentage of her staff are vaccinated OR how many are working in her offices?

Have no idea nor do I care as I assume they are or will be subject to whatever rules are in place which is either vaccinate or test or be fired or vaccinate or be fired.

Did find this referring to a "provocative" BookFace post which, of course, carries a lot of weight with some. :laughing

Data made available since the hearing show that nearly all employees of the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes the CDC, have complied with Biden’s order.

A White House update noted that as of Nov. 23, 96.4% of HHS employees had received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose.

When including pending or approved exemption requests, the department’s compliance rate with Biden’s order rose to 98.8%. And as of Dec. 8, 97.1% of HHS employees had received at least one dose, with a compliance rate of 99.6%.

Overall, 92.5% of over 3.5 million employees in federal agencies included under the executive order had received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose by Dec. 8, with a compliance rate of 97.2%.

Those figures were announced by the White House on Dec. 9, weeks before the Facebook post.

While Walensky might not have had the exact percentage available at the time of the hearing, updated data shows that the vast majority of government employees are getting their shots, and Walensky didn’t say otherwise.

I hope I don't get suspended again for posting something that mentions a politician's name but if I am, so be it.

That's an interesting little fantasy.

Where is the link to your assertion that 'even CNN is now admitting...'?

Also, living has potential side effects possible, drinking water has side effects possible. Cumulative risk vs benefit is necessary during a pandemic. What you're essentially saying is that you're going to put yourself well before others in your actions in the very, very tiny chance that there might be something negative in it for you. How are you even on a motorcycle forum? You can't possibly be a real rider with that kind of viewpoint. :laughing

You know how to use Google, right? Try typing in "CNN myocarditis covid" and I'm guessing you might be able to find something.

Finally, you're getting it! Your personal health is not my responsibility. Me existing is not affecting your health negatively. There's been plenty of time for the obese to lose weight, the smokers to stop smoking, and the malnutritioned to start eating better and taking vitamins during this pandemic. Anyone who still has 3+ comorbidities (the highest risk of dying from COVID) has nobody to blame but themselves.

How are you even on a motorcycle forum? You can't possibly be a real rider with that kind of viewpoint. :laughing

I could say the same thing about you, taking an experimental medical treatment for a sickness with a 99%+ survival rate.

That's an interesting little fantasy.

Reality is now fantasy. Always interesting to see into the minds of vax-supremacists.
