Go Pro helmet cam?

Hi!
What do you think of this GoPro on Amazon Prime day deal for the next two hours?

It'd be my first helmet cam. Intended uses include:
Motorcycle rides (street) (helmet worn)
Road bicycling (helmet worn)
Car driving
Trail running (so I can capture the coyotes, rattlesnakes, and pumas on video!)
Horseback riding (dunno how I'd wear if not wearing a helmet)
More activities as they come!

Says battery life isn't the best if using the added features. And it gets hot easily. I suppose since I don't have time to research, I could buy and return if it's not a match. And I'll have to figure out which mounting hardware to get.

GoPro HERO8 Black Retail Bundle - Includes HERO8 Black Camera Plus Shorty, Head Strap, 32GB SD Card, and 2 Rechargeable Batteries $349 (regular) $279 (next two hours).

Thanks in advance! :ride

The price is good though it's not the lowest it's ever been--I'm fairly certain it was sold "naked" for about $250 a while ago. I've owned one for over a year and the image stabilization is just stunningly good. I tossed a 256gb card in mine and carry a few spare batteries and I'm set for most adventures I go on.

A perk you might not use is that you can also use it as a webcam for your computer as well. :dunno :laughing

Rad to hear this honest review about the machine. Excellent to hear the image stabilization should be as good as the video shows on Amazon. That's spectacular! Sounds like it's a good model if well-prepared with large memory card and extra batteries. And my ancient laptop could use a better webcam so that's definitely a bonus. :grin

Save some money and get additional aftermarket batteries. They are basically made from the same factory.

I have Wasabi batteries which are rated at a slightly higher voltage, but I've had no issues with them.

For horseback riding you can use a chest mount. Don’t get the GoPro one, there are plenty of other brands that are far cheaper and do the same thing. In general, that goes for all other GoPro accessories too .

If the underlined is your the machine you plan on editing on, you very well may struggle.

Their "new" GoPro Quik app should be acceptable though.

TBH, this really isn't a true statement. Sure there are other cheaper helmet style cams on the market and some come awfully close but nothing really hits the mark that GoPro does. If you don't need the editing software, the bitrate, and the stabilization, you will likely be just fine.

I interpreted that post to mean the chest mount, not the camera itself.
If it was about the camera I agree with you completely.

I have this GoPro, and will also add it's really excellent! I'd avoid any bundles - I found I need pretty specific accessories for what I do, and all the generic shit that came with my camera mostly just sits. Buy it barebones like someone suggested, but the things are damn awesome these days. The last GoPro I had was one of the originals, and they have come a LOOOONG way since.

Yes, my comment was about the chest mount in answer to her question about horseback riding as a mounting solution for that purpose.
My second point was to say that many off-brand accessories do very well for a lesser price and should be considered.
But when it comes to the camera itself, you gotta go GoPro.

There are CHinese made cameras for a fraction of the cost that work just as well FYI. I'm not suggesting you get one, but rather just want you to know there are other options.
