Good-ass cover songs

First heard this song while recovering from a car accident in Kilkenny, Ireland. I think this is the only female version that I've heard.

At what point does the cover version become the default? I'd be willing to bet that even among those who know that Kristofferson wrote and originally recorded "Bobby McGee" most would agree that Joplin's rendition is much more significant. I'm sure plenty of people would put Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" in that category.

Then we have even more extreme examples- songs that everybody knows the cover version, but not the original, like "At Last" by Etta James, or "Valerie" by Amy Winehouse, or "Satisfaction" by Devo. These songs are truly the domain of the artists who covered them, and not of the original recording artists.

Since I literally just saw them minutes ago and they played this Celtic Frost cover

Rtmac's post above reminded me of this, which I'd stumbled across a week or two ago:

Very short covers.
Guy is pretty good.
