GoPro Hero 3 (black) First Day Review

What does it say? I don't know where to look for what it says.

I get about 1hr 4mins on 1080@60fps and 1hr 12mins on 720@120fps

I didn't get the black edition to NOT have awesome framerates! :D

When you turn the camera on it will display the battery time remaining at the bottom. I figured out all my issues which were as I guessed it user error. However there is still some issues with the camera not charging or freezing. I am sure it will get figured out in the next firmware update.

Have you used the cineform program yet? It is freaking amazing! Also, what are you using to slow mo the video? What is the best fps for that as well?

I think you may be a bit confused about what that number means. That number is actually the amount of time left you can record at your current video settings. Protune uses less compression and a higher bitrate so it takes up more space. Thus when you turn it off the length of videos you can record is now longer.

For the record, mine says 4hr 30mins

Cineform is alright I guess. You can't really do much with it. Its great for time lapsing a video but really thats the only thing I use it for. You can use windows movie maker to slow down the videos if you want, I use power director 11 but its unnecessary to purchase it unless you want to do some more interesting stuff with your videos.

My gopro froze a few times today, I had to take the battery out to reset it. Pretty lame and inconvenient

Mine froze while charging the battery a few times. Really lame firmware :/
Great camera though.

Ok, don't charge the gopro while the battery bacpac is plugged in, weird shit happens. Unlike the original gopro, only either the bacpac or gopro will charge up. The gopro also will not turn off while charging with the bacpac on. If you shut it off it will just immediately start up again. I don't anticipate this being a problem for recording while charging using the bacpac but who knows. I'll find out eventually when I get it wired up to my bike.

Funny you mention that because the GoPro will continue to charge or whatever it is doing for as long as I have it plugged into my MacBook Pro. Just this morning it charged for 4 hours until I removed it. It was fully charged but the charging display was still going and it was hot.

Yea mine does that too whereas my original gopros shut off. The three just keeps trying to charge and stays warm. I can't imagine that is good for the battery

Just got mine yesterday! :party I also got the Battery BacPac v2 for the Hero3, I was slightly disappointed that the new version doesn't come with a removable battery... I was hoping to be able to use my spare GoPro Hero battery in there... I should have gotten the v1 instead. Oh well...

I found the same problem where it won't stop charging... I left it charging overnight and when I woke up this morning, it was very warm... setting it up was pretty annoying, but once I had gotten it working, it seems to be doing ok... I also bought a WiFi BacPac for my GoPro Hero, and synced both cameras up to the remote... :nerd

Hopefully, I can get a chance to test it out on the bike soon... stuck at home today.

The gopros problems are tolerable because the video is so amazing. Like man, fuck this camera, but the videos argh!!!

for the GoPro Hero 3 Black crew
http://abekislevitz.com/understanding-your-new-gopro/

Guy works at GoPro and gives a breakdown of how the sensor works and which settings do what...
TL;DR:
• Use 720/120 Narrow for slowmo
• Use 1080/60 Wide for action
• Use 1440/30 Wide for everything else

He also complains about the battery life :rofl
