hey everybody. My dad recently bought some new vortex rearsets for his 06 CBR 1000 RR. I saw that it came with a GP Shift. I guess it reverses the shifting. So in order to shift up you click the lever down instead of up. I thought that was pretty cool. Which also meant that down shifting would have to be done by clicking the lever upwards. thats weird.:wtf Anyways, I was wondering if anyone actually uses this GP Shift while riding at the track or street?

The SV I bought fairly recently is set up like that, and I can't say I'm a huge fan of it.

A lot of GP racers and AMA use it, you don't get your foot caught on upshifting when leaned left. A lot of very fast guys don't use it.

On an SV, I suggest you go back to standard shift. The way the steering knuckle points down, it can contact the track in lowside crash and break the cases. A few of us have discovered this the hard waay.

Growing up on the east coast turn 3 I think right hander going uphill at Loudon required a shift in the middle and stepping down was a lot easier than getting your foot under the peg for that.

And coming out of the Carousel at Sears stepping down again rather than sticking your foot underneath

But it's all about preference anyways right?

I prefer reverse shift. But my YSR is standard right now which sucks on the track so I am keeping my street bike that way too. On the street it doesn't matter much, but on the track on a little smoker, you need access to those gears all the time!

damn, just took a look at it and I see what you mean. I'm gonna switch it to standard shift, thanks for the heads up. I had just figured that I would get used to how it is, but cracking the cases wouldn't be fun at all.

Dead threads are not found by newer people usually cuz we do not know how to find them... I run Std shifting btw cuz I ride a little of everything, MX, SM and DT and then of course RR.... Good times, but the reverse GP deal would totally mess me up at least going back and forth...

I just recently converted my 04 gsxr 600 to the GP shift... on my bike all you have to do is switch the lever around. No ad on's or anything. It was very simple and after i rode it i liked it a lot better. I haven't ridden the track with it yet, but i'm excited to do so.

I actually like the GP shift at the track, just cost me too much money when I had to tear a motor down and replace the cases :laughing

While I prefer reverse shift and run it on both my street and track bikes, I was one of those SV guys that found out the hard way. Did anyone ever make some sort of engine / frame slider to protect against that?
