Graphics Tablets

Ken...if you're going to get a tablet, don't spend 99 buck on it. i've had 2 of em....some ACER one for 99 bucks, and a genuine Wacom for 320 bucks....

trust me..99 deal = SHIT.

stick to wacom if you're gonna get one. it's worth it if you use PS alot or illustrator.....hell, i use mine mostly for Flash.

Actually I was talking about the smaller wacom, its 99 dollars. Donno, depending on what you need it for ken. For just a mouse replacement and better drawing control for basic illustrations then the 99 dollar wacom is good enough IMO.

But if you are planning on doing digital art (a la www.goodbrush.com ) then, I would spring for the more expensive one. The 99 dollar one has everything I needed, 256 pressure sensors, and it comes with a bunch of goodies. I draw with it and never had a problem.
See!

Anyway... just borrow one, try it out.

Only those that are unwilling to admit the fact that they've made a terrible $3000 mistake.

:twofinger

I've got the basic Wacom tablet that was given to me by a fellow BARFer. I like it quite a bit and prefer it to the Mouse when it comes to Photochopping, but I'm no CG expert, so take my endorsement with a grain of salt.

Whatever.... Micro$uck whores:teeth

M$, *nix, OS2, BSD, whatever. it's all the same.....cept M$ supports more shit all around. if *nix got their shit together, and started supporting more apps, games, and hardware, i'd be all over it. in fact, i used to use GNU Debian alot, till the shit crapped out on my with hotswaping USB shit. :/

That my be true, but it will be a cold day in hell before you catch me putting in a $15 52x CD-RW from a generic company with drivers that could cripple your system.

Quality over quantity...

Sure M$ has a crap load of software...But how much of that software do you actually use that's out there? There's tons and tons of crappy software.

Any who...this is a sensitive topic.....I'm outtie:laughing :later

:laughing "Quality," that's rich! :laughing

I was so glad when the FedEx man brought me my new Dell to repalce the smoldering heap of slag that was my G3 who's brand new hard-disk was rendered useless by Apple's driver "update" for OSX. The driver update actually contained the warning that it might do that. Thanks for the warning, Steve! :thumbup :loser

If you want the Microcruft apps (office/MSIE,etc), games, and 'stability', sure stick with them. Have you looked at a PC recently? Notice the sticker that says "Designed for Windows XP/NT/2000"?

Unix/Linux is no different. And it's certainly not meant to run games. At least not the truly enterprise class operating systems.

If I want to run games, I'll go get an XBOX.

'Quality'? It's only as good as your last 'Windows Update". :hand

i call bullshit!

:D

hehe...i HATE console games. i prefer a mouse and keyboard.

yeah, i do know what you mean about "designed fer windows XX" though... personally, i'm a win 2K professional guy. gots all the hardcore utils/capabilities that i need.. though, i do use apache server, MySQL, and PHP on my comp (which aren't the best on windows)

uh oh another mac vs pc thread, i thought i olnly seen those on design forums..

ill just say this, had a dual processor G4 with 2-21" monitors when it first came out, adobe products ran fast, but .swf files (flash files) sucked not to mention there were no 3d programs for the mac at the time. the design firm i used to work at owned by a hard core mac user, made us all use macs, called us evil if we used pc, but we were a flash based design firm, so we tossed them. walk into any big firm who mostly do flash and 3d, and youll see a majority of PC's. macs are perty but thats about it..

I love my 1.7ghz HP with my 1ghz ram, $600.00 in video cards, and 3-19" monitors.. :teeth

before moving to south korea, a had a homemade Athlon 1.2ghz, 768mb RAM, two 30GB HDDs, $280 in video cards, and two 17", one 19", and one 15" monitor. :D

(dual display ATI Raedon 9000, voodoo3 3000, and a shitty little trio.) :D

NOW, however, i have a P4 2.4ghz, 1gb DDR3100 RAM, 64mb DDR dedicated video card, and one 16.1" LCD display....oh yeah, and an 8x DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive, one 60gb HDD, and 3.1hours of battery life. :D
