Greenpeace "Protest Pod" dropped off at Apple

By the way, somewhat off topic, has anyone else noticed that the City of Santa Clara is quickly becoming the most popular city in the Bay Area for new data centers? It seems like a new one is popping up ever month. We think that it's related to the fact that the Santa Clara generates its own electricity, and the rates are significantly cheaper than what PG&E charges. Heck, Santa Clara even owns its own hydro electric plant up in the Sierras.

I have a couple buddies that work for the electrical department in the city, and they tell me that when the snow melt is strong, the hydro plant has more than enough capacity to generate all the city's electrical needs. And, every day that the hydro plant runs strong, the city pockets about $150K because they sell off the oil that they would have used generating electricity at their local plant.

The funniest part is the protesters getting popped with a hazmat fine for their huge lead acid batteries. :laughing

i'm a little chilly at work this morning and could use a little flaming.
That's an interesting article. Did anyone read it (the link about Watson), and if so, what did you comprehend out of it?

yeah I just read it. Interesting. I'm not sure if other's who posted about it actually did read it though.

I'd write what I gleaned but why waste keystrokes?

i think you misunderstood me. i wasn't saying that what they say was true OR false. i was merely wondering why THEY said data centers were bad and was adding that to the thread for clarity.

I think you missed the point of my post. :teeth

(BTW, I've built a few datacenters, and I still sleep at night.)
