I bought my 01 R6 with about 9K on it and know that it had a clutch kit installed just before I took delivery. The bike now has 14k on her and I haven't had any problems with slipping in any gear once the clutch is fully engaged. I ride pretty smoothly and don't do 2nd gear clutch wheelies or anything that would lead to premature wear. I have noticed, though, that on the few occasions I have tried to take off in first quickly the clutch emits an attention getting grinding/vibrating noise. Is this normal?

Just curious... what led you to believe it was the clutch? That might help diagnose the problem.

The only reason I ask is that it would be unusual (not impossible though) that the clutch would only act up when you're in 1st gear. How about if you do quick accelerations in 2nd, 3rd etc? Does the engine rev up faster than the back tire is spinning or do you hear the grinding noise then?

Well, I don't know much about clutches, but the sound only occurs when I am revving the engine more than normal (not an obscene amount or anything) while letting the clutch out in first. It isn't the normal smooth clutch engagement sound. I can rip on it after the clutch lever is completely out in any of the gears and there is no slipping. The clutch seemed like the most suspect culprit.
