This morning, I started up my bike, switched the choke switch and I took off without turning it off. So, every time I stopped I would be so lost as to why my bike was still revving in the 4RPM range and could not figure it out and pulled over on the side of the road for about 5 mins until a little light went off in my head reminding myself if maybe it was the choke. Was getting all worked up over nothing.

Man did I feel dumb.:thumbdown

On an unrelated note, I also hit my first bird this past weekend. I was riding along HWY1N to SF and I was riding two up with my girlfriend and a bird hit me in the chest and helmet at 70mph and went over me and hit her as well. Damn birds. *shakes fist* Thing scratched up my helmet.:(

In before, "cool story bro." :)

ur on a ninja 250, i think its time to move on to a bike that doesnt run a choke. at least thats what ive read. that is of course if youve had it for at LEAST 3 months AND 1000 miles

Being the OP helps when you want to get in before someone says something :p

What the hell does a choke have to do with "moving on?" Do you even know what a choke does?

I still have yet to hit a bird. I've had plenty of close encounters with turkeys, though. At least they're better than deer in that when you honk they move faster.

If your bike is revving to 4k rpms, you are over-choking it me thinks.

Generally, I'll start up my 250, and adjust the choke til the bike idles around 1300 rpm.
I'll take off and ride for 5 minutes or until I know the bike is warm to kill the choke. Otherwise, I'll stall the bike when I come up to a red-light.

Me thinks otherwise. When I have the choke on my bike will stay steady at 2k while warming up. Once warmed up it will rev at 4k and then I'm good to go.

I was just thinking 4k was a bit much.

I stand corrected, and thanks for the input.

My dumb mistake was running out of gas for the first time right when I hit a freeway onramp. i was sitting there for right around 90 seconds before i remembered the reserve switch. haha

LOL

I ease the choke off 10 seconds after starting so the idle falls to 1100. After another 10 seconds it picks up to 1600, and I ease more choke off back to 1100. I may ride away with it like this, but I'll open the choke completely before I've gone a couple blocks.

2k? 4k? WTF!?!?

My bike doesn't have a "choke" but I like to choke my chicken! :twofinger

Eh, I've made it all the way from work to my freeway off ramp before realizing I've left the choke on. And yet somehow the world keeps keeping on...

I try to turn my choke off by the second intersection from home. Sometimes I make it 10 blocks before I realize I forgot. I never get all the way to work before I notice. After the hundredth time of doing that, you start to get the hang of automatically pushing the lever, even if it's already off.

Still, no harm no foul. Except for your plugs. They will foul eventually.

On my 2005 EX250 the lowest you can go on a cold morning is ~2.8k RPM, take away any more and it'll stumble down and die. I usually use more maintenance throttle than choke for the first few intersections, it's more responsive.

When is the last time you changed your spark plugs and air filter? It shouldn't need to rev that high to keep running.

Did the bird shit on you when you hit it? This is what usually happens to me... or maybe I just bump in to bukake fetish shitbirds.
