Headlight off switch

Mea culpa! Ok- I've learned that most, but not all, do come on/ with the key- not the engine running. So, for the vast majority- my point remains.

Seems to me this should invalidate the entire vehicle code...

Here's another data point - my '07 Suzuki Boulevard C50T headlight comes on when I turn the key, but then goes off while I'm cranking the starter. Once the motor fires the headlight comes back on...

Sounds like they could impound your bike for that shit!:thumbup

I don't know what you have been smoking, but you got some bad shit dude!

The law requires the light be on at all times when the engine is running, hence the "comes on when engine started and off when the engine stopped"

If the light comes on BEFORE the engine starts and /or stays on AFTER the engine stops doesn’t really matter. It still meets the requirement that it is ON when the engine is RUNNING.

Do I have to explain the directions to shampoo for ya next?:twofinger

:wtf Maybe you could explain this last statement? Are you serious?

Usually when I stop someone for driving without a headlight, they point it (their switch) out to me themselves.. YMMV. :teeth

good heads up not to tell an officer who pulls me over when i forget to turn the stupid thing on !! i gotta be like "oh, it is broken!?!? oh, no! i'm sorry to have spent your time on this issue, ossifer; i'll get it fixed ASAP!!"

LEO goes to write the $10 fix it ticket. i get ticket, leave, turn on light, find the next cop and get him to sign it.

:teeth

:twofinger

now that is of course assuming that neither LEO decides to ass ram me on my not-quite-exactly 100% legal turn signals & exaust

:rofl

:later

I know the spirit of the law is that whenever the engine is on, the headlight MUST be lighted.. so, if the light comes on when the key is inserted, when the key is in the on position or when the engine is started.. it is all the same, the light is on when the engine is running. If you have a by-pass switch that allows the light to be OFF while the engine is running, then it would be a violation.. even if you have the light on. Unless the bike is pre-1978 manufacture, the ability to by-pass and cut the headlight without also cutting the engine is an equipment violation.

Like I said, when I see a bike rolling around with no headlight and stop them.. they usually ADMIT they have a by-pass switch and advise that they "forgot" it was switched off.

Amazing; not one motorcycle currently manufactured complies with that section. They all turn the headlight on with the key, not "when the engine is started". Nor do they, "remain lighted as long as the engine is running", they turn off with the key.

my zx-6r headlight turns on ONLY with engine being started( or u crank fr a second and let go). When key is turned off engine will kill the headlights stay on soooo my zx6r meets the code :)
