The only times I’ve ever worn my helmet when on four wheels was with the Shelby club track days at both Seca and Sears with my convertible JCW Mini.

Also, why do some people wear Covid style face masks while driving alone with windows rolled up?
Allergies maybe, but it seems ridiculous.
 
Why?
One time I had to drive to work (freeway) in a car without a windshield.
Another time I had to drive a ‘62 VW Bug across the valley with no seatbelts. Wifey made me wear a helmet.

Tomorrow Elfin and I are taking two cars on a four hour roadtrip. We have a pair of helmets with Sena comms. We could talk. We could use phones, but we know that would be illegal as we don’t have proper hands free shit.
 
Folks give you great looks while piloting a cage with a helmet on. It’s freaking hilarious.
 
Elfin just pointed out we have walkie talkies… I think I need to read the letter of the law
 
I knew a guy who wore a helmet in his small sedan thinking he’d protect his head. He was nuts in other ways though. While legal as long as it doesn’t impair hearing or vision, if no HANS device exists one might expect more neck/spinal issues from the weight of the helmet during impact. It will also attract leo attention. Just stay on the handsfree phone?

CVC 23123.5(a) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while holding and operating a handheld wireless telephone or an electronic wireless communications device unless the wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device is specifically designed and configured to allow voice-operated and hands-free operation, and it is used in that manner while driving.

(b) This section shall not apply to manufacturer-installed systems that are embedded in the vehicle.

(c) A handheld wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device may be operated in a manner requiring the use of the driver’s hand while the driver is operating the vehicle only if both of the following conditions are satisfied:

(1) The handheld wireless telephone or electronic wireless communications device is mounted on a vehicle’s windshield in the same manner a portable Global Positioning System (GPS) is mounted pursuant to paragraph (12) of subdivision (b) of Section 26708 or is mounted on or affixed to a vehicle’s dashboard or center console in a manner that does not hinder the driver’s view of the road.

(2) The driver’s hand is used to activate or deactivate a feature or function of the handheld wireless telephone or wireless communications device with the motion of a single swipe or tap of the driver’s finger.

(d) A violation of this section is an infraction punishable by a base fine of twenty dollars ($20) for a first offense and fifty dollars ($50) for each subsequent offense.

(e) This section does not apply to an emergency services professional using an electronic wireless communications device while operating an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section 165, in the course and scope of his or her duties.

(f) For the purposes of this section, “electronic wireless communications device” includes, but is not limited to, a broadband personal communication device, a handheld device or laptop computer with mobile data access, or a pager.

CVC 26700(a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), a passenger vehicle, other than a motorcycle, and every bus, motortruck or truck tractor, and every firetruck, fire engine or other fire apparatus,
whether publicly or privately owned, shall be equipped with an adequate windshield.

Ok, you might get a pass on the second one, since they start manufacturing model year vehicles in the previous year.

CVC 27314(a) No dealer shall sell or offer for sale any used passenger vehicle that was manufactured on or after January 1, 1962,
other than a motorcycle, unless it is equipped with at least two seatbelts which are installed for the use of persons in the front seat of the vehicle.

Simple answer.

Mask stays on until day is done. Can't handle the mask until you are throwing it away or into the wash.

More complex answer,

Allergies (as mentioned), Uber/Lyft driver, avoiding facial recognition at stop light cameras, sunburnt lips, etc. Or OCD, Overly Covid Diligent
