So its time to upgrade from the Ol' 600F4 to something a little newer. I love my Honda for many reasons. but most of all for the ease of repair. I work on my bikes myself for the most part and with a Honda service manual and a little luck(frustration, trial and error, ect) the Honda has been a great bike.

Three bikes in mind, all used, and local so you all might recognize some of these.

#1 a 2007 CBR100RR with 7500 mi for $6500. Bike has been dropped, but only caused a very tiny scratch on the left fairing. Other than that bike looks to be in great shape. Located in Treasure Island(never been there, heard its really ghetto, no offense) Black on Black

#2 a 2005 CBR1000RR with 5000mi for $6400. Bike is in mint condition with some new pirelli's on it. Perfect condition, not one scratch, great care taken with this bike. Second owner bike, but it was purchased around 500mi from a cop who never rode it, so I'm told. Located down in San Jo, Red and Black

#3 a 2005 CBR1000RR with 7500mi for $6000. Second, or third owner, not sure as I have not been to look at it yet, but from what I can tell the bike also looks to be in perfect condition. Located in santa rosa. Black and silver

My first choice was the 07 because I figure newer is always a little better and I like that its one owner, but does anyone else have any thoughts on this issue? Thanks to whoever is out there.

damn....aiming for the liters...

nothing is for sure until you see the bike in person and test ride it

also bring someone moto-savvy and have them have a look at it as well

I do sportbike riding for the most part. Twistie roads when I can find them, but I need something that's a little more comfortable for the freeway as I have to go to sac once a month. No real question as to the type of bike I want, been looking at another 1k for quite a while. I'm to big(tall) for my 600 to do 200 mi in a day. I will make the 600 exclusive to the track from here on out.

Have you considered a DL1000 V-Strom? If you want something really comfortable for long rides, yet fully capable of going in the twisties, it's what I'd get. But it's not the prettiest of beasts. Depends on your priorities. Good luck.

If you're commuting, set on a 1000, and keeping the 600, what about an FZ1 or VFR?

If it has to be a sportbike, I have an 07 600RR so you know where my opinion sits.

The buzzy 600 does get a bit boring on high mile trips though. If I was commuting a lot and had cash for two bikes, I'd get a comfier sport tourer with some wind protection. Or maybe even an ex-police BMW for cheap.

A V-Strom :wtf not even close.

get the 07.

The 2006 CBR1000RR offered incremental advancements over the earlier model with more power, better handling and less weight. Changes for 2006 include:

* New intake and exhaust porting
* Higher compression ratio
* Revised cam timing
* More intake valve lift
* Double springs for the intake valves
* Higher redline
* Larger rear sprocket
* New exhaust system
* New chassis geometry
* Larger 320 mm (13 in) front brake discs but thinner at 4.5 mm (0.18 in)
* Revised front suspension
* Revised rear suspension with new linkage ratios
* New lighter swingarm
* Revised front fairing design

The 2006 model carried over to the 2007 model year mostly unchanged. The brushed aluminum swingarm was changed to black and the bike is offered in four new color schemes; Black, Red/Black, Satin Silver and Race-Replica Repsol.

i was riding my drz with a buddy (on a 2007 gsxr 1000) on mines road, coming back towards libmo from mt hammie. i had neglected to fill up my tank, so i hit reserve before the junction. i was being very careful with mileage, just coasting downhill, not using much throttle, you know.
as we got to the last set twisty parts before you come into all the houses, i was going faster, since i was close to gas. a v-strom came up from behind us, passed us in a corner, stood it up at the exit, and walked away. my buddy nails it and gives chase, and reels him in, but can't close the gap or even think about passing.
when i caught my buddy at the intersectionby the del valle road, he said that he was riding over his head trying to keep up.
v-strom ain't no slouch.

op- they're giving away unsold 2008 and 2009 bikes at dealerships. ya sure you don't want to finagle a left-over from a desparate saleman? not specifically a v-strom, but any kind. spend some time calling or trolling the intrawebz.

+1... FZ1 is a great bike, very fast... Experienced it from the front seat (took one around the block) and the back ("oh shit two up ride" with Shawn at Thill).

Its quick.

If the CBR600 is too small you'll likely be unhappy on the CBR1k -- it isn't much bigger in the frame.

Go to a dealer and ask about an 08 1000rr. They are heavily overstocked right now, lots of room for negotiation. You might be able to get one in the above price range and it will be brand new with a warranty.

To each his own. I like my Strom's upright seating position, reliability, performance, etc., but it's not a babe magnet. Fortunately I'm already married. :laughing

I think its funny how everyone is suggesting other bikes when its sounds like you want a 1000rr. the most useful piece of info here is the suggestion about looking at an 08. it is not much bigger than the F4 however.

as for the V-Strom its worse than my bike and I ride a POS. I have ridden the V and wee they both suck. I'm not saying that if you put Jeremy McGrath on one he wouldn't be able kick my butt going down mines even if I was on any bike I chose.

you hit the nail on the head. to each his own. dont take my feelings on the Strom personal. I was just having a hard time with a suggestion that was so far off from what the post was asking. but if we didn't have different preferences then we would not have such a wide variety of bike available. they all have two wheels and we're all in the game together. :thumbup

I don't see how a CBR1000RR is going to be more comfortable for long freeway trips than an F4. I dunno, maybe you can touch your knees without bending over?

I have owned two CBR 1000's. I think it would be the worst commute bike ever. If you're going to have a track/sport bike in the form of your 600RR, why not get something more upright as your second bike? I bet you'll find you're faster (have more fun too) on the twisties and you certainly will enjoy your commute more.

Multistrada's are cheap used and a ton of bike for the money.
