Hello barf, not really sure what I’m looking to get out of this if it’s pure anger and venting or maybe some good solid advice. I Recently purchased a home with a pool. Not a new home just new to me. And of course like most real estate agents they always buy you a home warranty to which I added a pool and spa coverage to the policy. Well a few weeks ago the screen on the automated system started to fail so I called the warranty company and they unfortunately did not have a in network contractor so they asked that I find a out of network contractor which I did and they asked that I send the estimate to them for authorization and they will reimburse me. Fast forward a week I received a call from the authorization department stating the claim has been approved and they will cover the cost of repairs $2300 to be exact. Perfect. I called the contractor back tell him go ahead and he said ok yes he had spoken with them as well and was told it was approved.

Today I received a call from the warranty company saying the claim is being denied that they don’t cover automated system. And the work has already been done. You can only imagine how PO I am.

I think I'd pursue that a little further, especially if there were any record of the authorization.

Always email or text. If the company does not want to use email or text, follow up with a confirming email or text confirming the conversation. Many online sites (ATT, Comcast) only let you use a message system on their site. If so do a screenshot. A screenshot of Comcast saved me money.

Lately I've found warrantees are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Well I finally made it to someone that agreed with my side of the story here. They are stepping up and covering it. Now can anyone recommend a competent pool contractor?? Ugh.

It's really easy, you just take all the shit plugged into the old system and plug it into the new system. WTF kind of controller costs $2300? :wtf

I've actually enjoyed working on my pool equipment, fixed most/all of it on my own at various times.

No idea. I just know it’s wireless and it controls all 4 pumps, spa and pool, lights. Everything

wow you have 4 pumps? I only have 2, and one of them is just a booster to run the sweep. I have an inground spa too. You must have a totally massive pool, I hate to imagine your power bill.

The pool equipment industry treats the words "wireless" and "internet" as a license to rape your bank account.

Yea I didnt know what I was getting myself into... it’s huge, around 85,000gallons.

If you don't have them already, highly recommend getting photovoltaic solar panels to offset the pump power needs, will work like a charm with Gilroy weather.

Lots of things you can do to optimize your costs, and as I mentioned doing the work yourself is kinda fun once you get the hang of it. Mechanical in a similar sense to working on a bicycle or motorcycle. Feel free to pm me if you ever want some tips.
