I need a recommendation for a home printer that is WiFi capable. Right now we have an HP Deskjet 4100 and it is a complete pile of :jaded that doesn't work half the time and goes through ink faster than UBOB goes through PBR.

Anyone know of any better options that work and use less ink? :dunno

We've been using the Epson Ecotank et-3760 and so far so good.

Supposedly uses less ink.

What do you need to print?

Brother Black&White Laser printer is my recommendation for most. It'll just work and will last forever. Printing color is overrated and unnecessary for lots of people.

Mostly my kids need to print out their school work so we do use color from time to time.

+1 on B&W using a laser printer. I had a HP LaserJet4100 for about 15 years before it started needing a new kit replacement.
Prints for years and years on one toner cartridge. Also, suuuuuper fast.

I bought the HP ENVY photo 7858 last year and have been very happy. Extremely fast. Great quality and will print front and back without taking paper out and putting it back in.

And as the name says, photos, if you ever print them, come out excellent!

Very pleased with a Canon color laser multi-function printer.

Pros - Color Laser! very sharp precise color prints. Toner cartridges prints thousands of pages.
Cons - Laser print is not good for Photography. It is a large printer, would be best to locate somewhere beside the Desk.

Multi-Function includes Scanner, Copier and Fax.

I have both the HP LaserJet and an Epson ecotank. They both have their advantages. If you do high volume color printing, go with the Epson. If not, the HP LaserJet would be my recommendation.

Samsung B/w laser for regular stuff, it even prints double sided.

Epson XP-830 (bought used) for color. Uses after market inks but do NOT do the firmware upgrade. It scans and coppies as well (and faxes).

BTW - home Wifi printing is great - except then the devices decide to not talk to each other, which happens occasionally. I periodically WiFi print from my HP laptop and from my iPad Air (1st gen).

My HP Smart Tank has tanks of ink for each color. Just poor ink into it.

Wifi is probably a standard feature now.

I thought you meant 3D printer at first. :p

My HP Envy 4520 is wi-fi capable; I can print from my smartphone. Pretty sure that it's been superseded by better models since I purchased it in 2016.

As a kid we always had a b&W laser printer and I totally took it for granted how cheap and easy it was. As a young adult got a few cheap inkjet things and was shocked how shitty and expensive they were. Went right back to b&w laser about 10 years ago and never regretted it.

For the occasional color print for homework, I'm sure you can just get that done at a print shop, a library, or maybe the school itself.

Same. My father did his own publishing, so we always had the good printers at home. Thing is, while those printers were fairly cheap to operate, they were stupid expensive to get in on. An HP LaserJet 3/4 cost a few grand in 90's money.

Thing is those printers still run today.

My Dell Laser Printer I bought off CL for $40 finally died a year or two ago. replaced it with a wifi laser printer from Canon for $100. It's been great, I'm just worried it will break if my cat ever decides to sit on it.

Another satisfied Brother laser user here. Brother seems to be less unscrupulous wrt ink/toner and DRM fuckery.

Went through several HP color laser printers until they started screwing the pooch. Last time around I went with a Canon all in one color laser printer/fax/copier with air print for phones and tablets. Has worked great so far.

Also, I know that it's news to no one how much inkjet printers are a scam, but I recently realized just how much they're a scam. We also have one of those combo scanner / fax / inkjet printers.

It won't scan because there's no ink.

And mine won't print black & white because it has no magenta ink.

And I can't buy magenta ink because they discontinued it. And the chinese knockoff cartridges won't work because the chip isn't serialized. MAJOR scam. Never buying an HP product ever again.
