Honda Monkey to be in US dealers this October

I don't know about that whenever I ride in SF there are motorcycles and scooters parked all over the place. Much more than San Jose. I much prefer to ride in SF than to drive. You'll see motorcycle parking area with like 20 bikes in em. Its actually better to ride a scooter in SF because it's sometimes tough to squeeze in between the cars with a moto, the supercub would be perfect.

San Francisco's hills are somewhat of an exception to the rule in the USA from a public transit perspective.

In the majority of the country, the only small displacement scooters you see on the road are typically ridden by people who have lost their license to DUI and so on.

Ugh, once the hillbillies get them.

Your gonna get reports again of little 8-12 yr old following their grandma to the liquor store for a beer run. And almost getting ran off the road.

Oh yea at 8am too. Grandma was just like yea we going to the store whats wrong with that

Just wish they'd start selling the Click 125 in the US. Bought one to leave in Thailand, Great Bike.

Had to look that one up :thumbup Reminds me of an Aprilla 50cc

I understand the general dislike for higher prices, but well-executed style / design and nostalgia brings a premium.

I've been this close to buying a Grom or Z125 or TNT135 or even a 150cc-ish scooter for round-towning for a few months now. The scooter wins out in sensibility, but the Monkey has me thinking maybe I'll hold out a few more months before I buy something.

I have to examine the tradeoff between "fuckin' A cool" and the functionality of underseat storage and whatnot. It's not an easy question for me, especially considering that the Monkey should be similar to the Grom in terms of general tomfoolery, where the scooter will fail.

But make no mistake, Honda knows that people will line up for this, even with the price bump. Sure, some of them will bitch, but they'll pay. Remember, early on, Groms weren't selling at MSRP—a lot of people probably paid a similar price for their Grom.

I agree.....so many will buy just as a memory of what they had. Price still makes me shake my head.

Baja monkey!

I may pick one of these up just for nostalgia sake. Looks just like the used Z50A I rode as a 10 year old.

i really really really don't need this and shouldn't buy it...

I just don't understand the love for the Super Cub, never have. I get the nostalgia, but the Monkey is going to be so much more fun.

The new Super Cub for the U.S. was announced yesterday in addition to the Monkey. (The Super Cub has remained available and in production elsewhere since the groovy age though the engine and other components have changed.)
...

I owned a Cub back in the day and it was my favorite bike ever. Gonna buy the new one and don’t care what anyone says

Uuuugggggghhhhh. Take my money, Honda.

The Super Cub? Or the Cub in general? To deny the latter is to deny a plucky machine that mobilized entire nations.

Well, I'm referring specifically to everyone getting all woozy about the Super Cub, but that of course goes back to the Cub. It's not denial, just a lack of excitement for it. I was uninterested in Cubs back in the day, and am not personally excited by the Super Cub now. A scooter has more utility if that's your thing, and there are tons of "cute" pseudo-vintage options there already. If actually riding is important, there are tons of lightweight bikes that offer more capability and also tick the vintage-y box, for example, the Van Van—which admittedly lacks the history component.

Like I said, I get nostalgia, but I don't really understand the excitement for the bike. That's why I only gave it a passing mention in the article.

You'll have to count me in for the Super Cub. A lot of the appeal to me is the videos of entire families on them in Vietnam. Also, the Super Cub helped me win an argument with my dad over the best selling motorcycle ever. I am forever indebted to that bike.

But... but... skate park!

But... but... skate park!

You know goddamn well I would skate park the shit out of a super cub. Doing so would make even better pictures. Plus I can bring all the ingredients for delicious Pho home with me!

I know you would, but the wheels are too big for proper skate park duty. :laughing

Plus, as far as I can tell, your Pho will be in a backpack just like it would be on a Monkey, Grom, whatever—although the Super Cub will accommodate bags of some sort with that little rack. Perhaps a milk crate can be rigged up? :teeth

It's an OEM KLR650 topcase, thank you very much. And, yes that's exactly how I would transport my groceries.

The Monkey still wins.
