So my high-school 10-year reunion is this year and they've created a Facebook page. Apparently, people aren't doing too well these days and a lot can't afford the $50 ticket per person (East Bay school, what do you expect? :laughing)

Anyone know a good way to raise money? I know companies like Otis Spunkmeyer has a program where you sell their products and a percentage of the proceeds get donated to your cause. Any ideas or suggestions?

How many of these people who can't dig up $50 have $250/month TV packages and $150/month cell phone bills?

and how many of them don't pay for cable, don't eat out, have a cheap pay as you go mobile phone, no land line, and barely scrape by every month so they wouldn't be able to drop 50 bucks on something as stupid as a 10 year reuninon?

It's only been 10 years. The only real difference is people have swelled a bit.

I know a few, but I bet it's not as many as the first category.

Who goes to their high school reunion?

this was also my first thought. I didn't really like about 90% of the people in HS anyway

Agreed. My 10 year came and went.

I got an email asking for my contact info at the 5 year mark, I'm not sure how they even got that portion of info. I replied telling them to never contact me again and I'm in no way interested in reunions.

I had a blast in high school, but I keep contact and see the folks I still want to know. I could give a fuck less about the rest.

My High School ran a big campaign to get us to pay 100+ for our reunion. With modern day social media as it is, most of the students said fuck that and organized our own reunion. 20 bux covered the drinks and it was potluck style. Out of 100 students, 35 showed up and 10 more paid that didn't show, so it was a pretty good time.

Lower the cost, lower the "fancy" level, and you might get more to attend?

I think that's what they're doing. They're organizing it on the FB page etc etc. They're trying to do it at some type of pavilion either in Oakland or San Leandro. The $50 includes food and 3 drinks so it isn't a bad deal. Also, we have more than 100 students in class of 2004 lol. We're pushing close to 1k students.

That's basically the Girl Scout cookie model. It works so well for them because they have legions of cute kids committing free labor to the cause. The Spunkmeyer thing is similar as it's often youth sports leagues, churches, etc. In order for people to buy stuff, they have to either want an overpriced product, or believe in the cause enough to buy an overpriced product they don't actually want. Someone else's HS reunion isn't likely to be that cause for many people.

You may have more success in getting local business to donate some items for the event (possibly in lieu of some event advertising/sponsorship). But there aint no magic to it. You have to get out, get into sales mode, start asking, and be prepared for a lot of rejection. And at least anecdotally speaking, a happy, smiling, and good looking young person of the opposite/appropriate sex will get you better yield. :laughing

Fuckin' beggars. Tell 'em to go sell ass if they can't cough up fifty fuckin' dollars. Pathetic.

This^^^^^

And this^^^^^

I passed up my 40th reonion invite, even tho it would have been a reason to ride to L.A. kinda funny to see who is now sharing last names, etc. At $150 even I couldn't make a no host bar pay for itself, so I fanned it.

Pssssst, they just don't want to go. Lack of funds is a good excuse.

Why bother? I told the organizers to fuck off. :laughing

Honestly I think only people who go to the reunion are the ones who want to re-live their glory days, or the ones that "made" it and want to snob others. :laughing
