How hot is too hot?

90’s are getting iffy for me, and getting more sensitive with age. Hydrating, esp w cold drinks, and wet T shirt is key. Sometimes, if conditions warrant, I’ll stash my moto jacket and ride in a sun shirt. Short local rides I’ve ridden in shorts and a bicycle helmet. My FAVE TIP is a misting spray bottle resting on my tank bag available with left hand.

Yeah it's hot AF in the Central Valley. I'm driving to work this week.

I used to ride with a Misty Mate on my bicycle for my hot rides (105-114) but it wasn't nearly as effective as the cooling towels for keeping me cool, especially since I was going 18 mph most of the ride.

My first foray into the heat, was my first trip to Death Valley, mid 70's year wise, not temps.

Today, I can get too much vitamin C, solar exposure, I couldn't hang with a ride up to Jerome yesterday,
Halfway there, I bailed, too hot of a wind blast, for me to endure, 112 in my sunny spot, weather report, 96 for Cottonwood, How ??

When it’s over about 115 I say fuck it. If I’m on the road, I’m on the road and will slog through it. But I’ll also absolutely find a place to jump in the water and get cooled down.

I'm kind of in the same mindset. If I'm going to work, or getting home with a deadline there's little in the way of weather that will make me throw in the towel. Like..... it would need to be physically, acutely harmful to my health or mechanically debilitating to my motorcycle (more likely now with the battery bike).

Riding for fun though, 95 or 100 degrees will have me stopping for cold drinks, ice cream, air conditioned establishments more than riding

The older I get the lower the too hot to ride temp is. The hottest I ever rode was coming back from the MotoGP years ago at Laguna. Saw 116 on my ST1300 temp gauge. Then it just started blinking. Stopped at Santa Nella and got two bottles of water, drank one and poured one under my mesh jacket. Bone dry in less than a mile. I like to ride in the Sierra Foothills and this time of the year they can be hotter than where a live.

Saw 102 on my outside weather station yesterday. Should be hotter today. I live on the edge of the Delta in Stockton and am 10 degrees hotter than east Stockton and the official weather station at the airport. My weather station is online at Weather Underground LVW Station and on AWN weather stations sites. This is my public dashboard includes my pool temp where I may be latter today.

Do we need to revisit the evaporative cooling thread? Type of oil makes a difference.
