Humans, Neanderthals, Boinking!

Whoda thunkit?

the article is clearly trolling because it's talking in time spans of "100,000 years" when the earth has only been around 94,000 years less than that

read an article a while back about modern day health issues/diseases potentially related to neanderthal DNA (resulting from cross species breeding). sounds like there were some progressive thinkers/relationships 30,000 - 50,000 years ago, or in any event, some horny mofos lol.

Well, damn. Turns out I'm a Neanderthal. But, I'm guessing more than a few of you've already figured that out. :dunno

My wife got us 23andme.com DNA kits for Christmas. Kinda fun. My results came back, and of the reports was titled Neanderthal Ancestry. A couple of key points...
  • DReg350's Neanderthal variants - 303 - This is more than 86% of 23andMe Customers
  • You have more Neanderthal variants than 86% of 23andMe customers.
  • However, your Neanderthal ancestry accounts for less than 4% of your overall DNA.
  • Highest in 23andMe - 387 - Variants

I'm a cave man. :laughing

Seems its been going on a long time-

So what does your wife's ancestry show? ape man? What are the other choices?

Yeah, it's odd. My reports came back, but her's haven't showed yet. :dunno

The reports were interesting, but the part I was most proud of was being a cave man. I told my boss I want an ADA accommodation for acting like a cave man, because... I am one. :laughing

Oh no! You and 23andMe are opening a whole new ADA litigation can of worms!

Hooray for the lawyers' full employment act!

I have more neanderthal dna than 95% of 23&me users.:laughing

Unfortunately I don't have any of the neanderthal dna that reduces back hair. :thumbdown

i dont need no stinking report to say i am a caveman.

my house has blacked out windows, two of them are closed off with foam backing and even behind book cases,

and when i redo the outside walls. will build in a faraday cage to the whole house. :sniper:kicknuts

I wonder if there is a way to re-breed all people with Neanderthal dna to eventually create a full Neanderthal? Like dogs but different.

It would be interesting.

I fear my, and most likely almost every BARFer, has a serious lack of understanding about genetics in general.

Like: Are all possible Neanderthal dna types still around? How many generations would it take to breed it back in, if even possible?

I've read extensively about how DNA is used by these services, and the guesswork that still goes into it. I am more confused now than before (when I all knew was dominant/recessive)
