Which one is better in your opinion and why? I have never owned a Duc or and Aprilia and wanted to know from the owners what they think is the better choice.

get the Ape, because Apes fling poo and ducks just swim in it

In other news today is not opposite day.

Every shootout i've read favors the duc. Plus you get to have a douchebag attitude for owning one. Come with purchase.

Don't forget the $100 starbucks gift card for buying the duc.

no way. do they really?
well $100 is $100 even in * coffee.

oh btw i hear triplethreat here claimly says the Dorsoduro is better. Could be cause he owns one and is defending it.

Motorcycle Consumer News tested the 796 and Dorsoduro, and the Aprilia won by a fairly large margin.

I dunno. The current Motorcyclist has a great article about the new Dorsoduro 1200 and it seems like it's gonna be a hell of a contender.

Douchebag attitude
why would you buy the 796? What are you poor? Get the 1100s model or get laughed out of the starbux parking lot.

They are making a 1200?

Awwwww but I alreay have so many bikes! What should I sell?

my impression with the hypermotard is that you always gotta be 'on top of it' all the time...be alert, always in attack mode stance, take some time to adjust to it's posture, motor characteristics but once ya got all that down and get used to it, it rewards you ...

with the ape, ya just hop on and make a few adjustments and it feels like an old friend that you go to the library with and that's it...

off the bike, the ducati looks like a thing of beauty and the ape looks like kawasaki made it during lunch break for aprillia ...

I rode both. I liked the Duc better. The Aprilia has the more "advanced" engine, but ends up not being all that much faster and is heavier. Duc also looks much better. I think there is a pretty fully kitted out one for sale in the classifieds right now, and I'd buy that one (no relation, but it looks ridiculously nice).

The Duc is also really an on-road bike. I got a multistrada just because I got a sick deal on it, but there are times I wish it had a more aggressive geometry.

Subscribed since one of those two will be my next bike!!!

I'd gladly accept either.

Spending my own money I'd pick the 800cc Hypermotard and use the money I saved vs. the big bike to put on a set of carbon fiber wheels.

I'd also eBay those goofy bar end mirrors. Other than that the bike needs nothing, the stock fuel mapping is the best of any fuel injected bike I've ever ridden. Any aftermarket pipe or other mods could only screw it up.

I went with the hype because it's sexy and way more bike than I need. I just love it.

Fortunately, both Ducati and Aprilia support demo programs, so you can ride both.
That said, get the Ape just for the rideability (if not the lower price tag).
The good things are: The motor is smoother across more of it's range (both in terms of vibration and power delivery), and the clutch is worlds better. The shorter gearing and wider power band also make a huge difference both in town and in the canyons. I happen to like the ergos better on the Ape too, but that's a very personal choice.
Down sides to the Dorso are: neutral is damned hard to find when stopped and if you have big feet your heels end up resting on the pillion pegs (which can be removed with two bolts each, no fuss).

Test rode the hyper 1100S on Angeles crest

Don't like the power band. Kind of like a truck engine. Tons of torque down low and middle but power falls off a cliff at the top third of the rev range. My bike had the single termis and CPU the fueling was PURFECT. Stock mirrors would suck if you lane split. Ducat make a set of NICE option mirror. You'll have to spend $1k on the larger tank.

Handling wise its easy to ride fast. The bike is light too.
