nah the new test is actually better for fat guys that can do the stuff but werent the best runners or situp masters. the marine corps changed theirs a few years ago to something similar and turns out its much better then having to do a 3 mile run, pull ups and "crunches". hell i know my pft score would have been a lot higher with this kind of setup.

Yep, no Krispy Kreme or ice cream in the test. I understand why you don't like it, calmdown the View will be on shortly.:|

Always been curious about something. If you go in the military, any branch, you need to meet the physical requirements, including the test and not just examination. Then every six months, do it again to prove you're in shape.

There are many LE agencies that require you to meet the minimums to those when you enter the force, but once you're in you can much on donuts and whatever else to your satisfaction? Given that police work can be very physically demanding, why don't they enforce the same requirement? Test twice a year, make sure they're in shape?

Because police officer's union would probably complain that that's an unfair imposition on the private lives of the officers or some shit like that.

when my granny was 93
she did PT just like me

new test will take longer and more resources to administer.

I predict the old test stays and just the combat arms get this new test.

When my granny was 94
she did PT more and more

and yeah I don't see this being widely implemented anytime soon. I used to ask why we DIDN'T run the obstacle course more often for PT, and was informed that in order to run it, you need to jump through so many hoops it's not worth the effort. IE, you need to have all the safety measures checked off and in place, similar to range control to use the firing ranges. Inclement weather would also nix this. I also can't see the balance beam with ammo cans catching on. People twist ankles and shit often enough just doing the morning runs.

A recent survey by the Pentagon revealed that almost 3/4ths of Americans of military age wouldn't qualify for enlistment because of physical limitations, i.e., too fat, a felony record, or a lack of a high school diploma. :twofinger

I'M 4F. :/

I'm glad to see the adjustment, though will this be a complete replacement of the current PFT? I skimmed the article so I didn't see either way.

The Marine Corps has adopted the CFT (Combat Fitness Test) as of 2008, this is also concurrent to the PFT. The first is a pass/fail whereas the later is still scored based on a 300pts scale.

glad to see this; i see nothing wrong with it.

is that true, or did you just pull that outta yer ass?
3/4 sounds like a lot... 1/2 i can easily see....which, in itself, is pretty sad/pathetic

Saw this posted elsewhere

"I am at one of the test locations, I have done a trail version of this as part of Officer PT (Infantry guys never miss a chance for OPD). At the end of it, 14 of the 22 people doing it ended up with long term profiles (including the SGM and BC) Turns out long term Army service wears on the body. The pull-up portion of the test did the most damage as many people have had shoulder/back/neck/wrist surgeries by the 15 year mark of service. 400 meter sprint in full IBA, not good on knee/ankle surgeries. Of the people that were re-injured, 6 had to have repair operations done. The out take from this Battalion was not good and I heard that it duplicated across post.
Of the 22 that took the test, all did complete a standard Army APFT in the last 6 months. Some do have P2 profiles but nothing that prevents them from the push-up, sit-up, 2 mile run. All 14 do now have P2 profiles that prevent them from doing most of the events on this test. I do understand that they are removing the pull up portion. I don't understand the need of the Army to change a bad test for a worse one."
