Back in the day I could just go to Sears and get a new freebie.
Who owns Sears?

Found this
Transform SR Brands LLC is an American privately held company formed on February 11, 2019, to acquire some of the assets of Sears Holdings Corporation. The new company is owned by ESL Investments. Following the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of Sears Holdings on October 15, 2018, Transformco purchased the surviving assets owned by Sears Holdings for $5.2 billion. On June 3, 2019, it was announced that Transformco would acquire Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores. As per the deal, Sears Hometown might need to divest its Sears Outlet division to gain approval.

Orchard Supply Hardware used to sell Craftsman last time I checked.

But I doubt it’s worth your time trying to find a Craftsman vendor. I’d simply buy a new socket and be done with it.

Search Google for “Who sells Craftsman tools?” and you will find plenty of options.

How long has OSH been gone now? I bought a couple on Amazon, despite hating those fuckers. Lowes? I also am not allowed to go near a mall until next year. Will have to check out Lowes sometime...

I should look up who fucked over OSH. Used to be a great store.

Lowes did.

They bought it, closed some stores down, opened some stores up, and then closed them all down again.

We were sad when they closed the one by us. Then we were giddy when they opened a new one much closer. Then they closed that, and we were sad again.

Really, really liked OSH.

Orchard Supply Hardware- where? The chain closed after selling to Lowes about ten years ago. A new knock off brand has done a great job getting leases into prior OSH locations, and new ones. Based back east, I don't recall their name.

In any case, I doubt they warrant Craftsman and by the time you drive all over- just go get a Rigid brand at HDepot.

Edit: "Outdoor Supply Hardware". This new brand is operated by Central Network Retail Group (CNRG)

Outdoor Supply Hardware; I have seen the one at Silver Creek. I’ll have to check it out after the holidays…

I bought a torque wrench at Harbor Freight and the clerk said it has a lifetime warranty. A clicker style. Clicker torque wrenches were one of the things the Craftsman warranty EXCLUDED because they're so easy to break.

"Harbor Freight Tools will replace any hand tool that fails to properly work during the lifetime of the original purchaser. In the event an identical item is not available as a replacement: Harbor Freight Tools reserves the right to substitute a substantially similar item in its place. "

anyway. say what you will about Hazard FRaught but with a warranty on handtools and generally increasing quality on quite a few things there's no reason to choose anything from the big box stores that are also made in chins

RE: OSH
the one in palo alto got taken over by an ACE franchise. also remember lowes closed a bunch of lowes stores at the same time they shut OSH down. they were literally competing with themselves having so many redundant stores

"Lifetime warranty"- whose/what's lifetime?

it literally explains that in the text i quoted, though one could fairly add "....as long as there is proof you bought it"
if you're signed up for their surveillance program they'll have a record of it

Schooly! I broke the pawls in a 3/8 socket wrench trying to bust loose old rusty lugnuts on my boat trailer with a 6 foot pipe extension.

As a little boy, I used to go to the Berryessa Flea Market with my dad. He would always look for Craftsman tools. I fondly remember him buying me beers from the Hamms beer truck.

I've been able to exchange broken craftsman items at Lowes as well.
Just walk in with the broken item, show it to customer service, get the replacement, go show customer service and walk out.

I've also tried their Kobalt line (same type of warranty) and found they worked quite adequately.

I've been using a lot of Tekton tools lately. I like their warranty, which is if something breaks, you sent them a picture of the broken item and they ship a replacement to you either that day or the next depending on how early in the day you get it to them.
