I need a mechanic

If you live in or near San Jose call Evolution Suspension.(number in my sig) Anywhere else in the bay PM elskipador on BARF. Both have stellar reputations, just ask around.

elskipador does not pick up a phone or answer messages, guess he is too busy or something? whatever!:rolleyes

Elskip is possibly out of town or otherwise preoccupied. These things happen.

I could never get Elskip to commit to doing work and finally he just stopped returning my PM's.

Find someone who is serious about their work, not some dude who picks and chooses then lies about it on the forums :mad

Whoa horsey... Allow me to jump in and defend ol El Skippy. How would he have such a reputation as an awesome mechanic? If he wasn't an awesome mechanic? (that includes having a good bed side manner and putting up the the poopooer naysayers such as yourself)

Hell.. I defer to Skip.. cause he does it for a living and I wrench as a hobby..

Don't complain.. and don't throw turds.. You don't know how hard it is to make a living as a mechanic and dude has put in his time, he every right to cheery pick the good work as far as I'm concerned.

No problem with cherry picking. Don't fuck around with me giving me a quote, then not return PM's to schedule etc. If you don't want to do it, say so and let me move on with my life.

You have no idea if I know how hard it is to make a living as a mechanic or a small business owner. He is clearly disorganized based on many posts about lack of response. His work seems to be good if you can get him to do it. The OP had a simliar experience as me.

I don't think the dude walks on water. :x

Why shouldn't I post my experiences? I don't go around telling everyone that posts good stuff about him to not post that crap since I disagree. I'm not throwing turds either. I'm not the only one with this particular complaint (do a search). If El Skippy doesn't like it, he can either change his ways or get back to folks. Part of doing business is taking the good with the bad. This happends to be a weakness of his, so I pointed it out.

When I pointed it out on a thread, he said he never got my PM's. I then posted them and he never responded. Sticking your head in the ground about your own problems shows me a lack of maturity about how you deal with real issues when they come up. Maybe he does do good work, but how does he handle it when something goes wrong? I don't know, but wouldn't put up the money to find out.

Come on.. Clearly, anyone who uses or thinks they can use BARF PM's and posts, as some type of work flow organization needs to be more organized.

You can't expect him to actually be able to follow that work post.. My dyslexia flares up just thinking about working out of that post or PM's for that matter. :laughing

Ahh.. well.. whatever... it's over.. I just hate to hear people send turds to send turds.. Calling it vetting a post.. you have a real turd to throw.. so let it rip :teeth

Maybe someone should write a work flow organization web part for BARF so people like Skip can use it as a tool instead of being called a tool? :p

I dunno.. I don't really care.. going for coffee..

PM's and email's have their place in the world of asynchronous communication.

But for serious real time synchronous business affairs don't forget that old somewhat primitive but effective device called the telephone.

Can't say why Elskip hasn't returned your calls or other messages. He must be either preoccupied or possibly unable to provide the services you're requesting at this time. Don't take it as a personal insult. It's just business. If you're not satisfied with how Elskip is managing your potential business inquiries then simply move on to contacting some of your alternate options.

Or he may just have decided you are too much trouble.

a...actually i was just kinda' weirded out by how you sent me a pm, about the same work, with the same phone # listed in both pm's, from 2 different accounts. so i decided that something must be fishy & just didn't reply. i notice that the 1 account http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/member.php?u=41817 is now banned.

really? i searched through all your posts & the 1 below is the only one i could find that even mentions pm's.....& you didn't "qoute" the pm or copy paste it so that i could actually see the pm that you said you sent me. now i'm not upset @ all that you're bitching about not getting a call back or whatever, maybe if i was a receptionist i would, but i'm not, i'm a mechanic & you've never seen me work on anything or seen what tools i have so how in the world would you know if i'm disorganized? what i am upset by is you calling me a liar, when you can't even back it up. thats pretty low, but i'm a forgiving guy, why don't you come up to the sf meet tomorrow & we can discuss it without all these keyboards & internets in the way?

It has been a while.

Valve adjustment and carb sync on my VFR750F. You replied to the first one, but not to the second one to schedule it, then I sent another and you didn't reply to that one.

Sorry, you are right. I didn't post the PM's. I don't still have the PMs, it was a long time ago.

The first thing I PMd you about was doing a checkout on a CX500.You never got back to me on that one. I figured OK, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and tried again with the VFR valves. You quoted me 400 for the valve adjustment and I PMd you back a couple of times asking to schedule it and never got a reply.

I draw conclusions based on actions that I can see.

you 100% sure you were talking to me? not supernatural or alanrider? the reason i ask is that i've never quoted anybody 400 for the valve adjustment on a late 80's~1998 vfr750...ever! thats 100 more than i would normally charge. the usual qoute is 3~4 hours labor @ 40.00 an hour & 8.00 for each shim we change out. so depending on how many valves you have out of adjustment you'd be looking @ 8.00~128 in shims. the whole quote would have been for 120~300.

me to...& what i see is someone coming on the internetz calling someone else they don't know & have never meet a liar & not serious about their job & not being able to back it up with proof & can't even get the facts straight on the stuff they were originally talking about. :thumbdown

It was like a year ago. Sorry Shawn, the details that I remember like stone are you quoted me a price, then you never answered the two followup PM's I sent you. You never answered the first email I sent you about the CX500. I do remember saying something like "I have the cash right now, and I know you are busy so when is your next availability to do it".

I'm sure your business isn't hurting, or you wouldn't have ignored my PM's.

The 400 may have included the carb. I should have said ~ 400.00.

Check YOUR PM's back that long ago, then report back. :rofl

Never heard of supernatural and Alan is in Petaluma which is too far for me to do service.

Wow, what an insulting thread. If ya only knew how many guys in this thread are actually mechanics, were mechanics, or currently wrench for $...

Shawn is one of the best. (I'll be contacting you in a couple months). Not only is the guy $40/hr, but he comes to your house as well!!

Yea, sometimes he's difficult to get a hold of. That's what voicemail, PM's, and email is for. Him, like many shops, spend a lot of time at the racetrack in various parts of the country....hence the sometimes spotty communication.
It still stands, i'd much rather send out a few quick messages on a computer, than deal with dropping off/picking up my bike at a shop. That'd be more expensive and time consuming.

Hey I have Skippy working on all my bikes all the time and i totally trust him w them. Yep, smtms it takes a bit to get a hold of him but for me its worth it. He is not a shop, he comes to you and organizes all that shit by himself. Cut him some slack dude. And if u dont like it find smbdy else...like some way more expensive dealership that doesnt give a shit about your bike at all (based on my experience),,,,cheers and hope you'll have a better day tmrw :)
