I bought my bike and got the pink slip signed with bill of sale. My problem right now is that I will not be able to make it to the DMV in person for 11 days. What will the penalty be if I come in 1 day more than the 10 day limit? Is it only a small fee penalty?

I was thinking of mailing the Pink slip signed, with application for title or registration and 15$. Is this even a allowed method? The website says to go to the DMV, but is this restricting the mail option completely?

Please let me know. If any of you have dealt with this before. Thanks.

go to AAA they do title transfer there too if your a member

go to the dmv online fee calculator, look it up online and write a check for 15 bucks over the amount owed and mail it in. they will send you a refund on checks over the amount owed, but they will not cash checks underpaid. i underpaid once by like 95 cents and they didn't cash my check and sent all paper work back to me. and mail in all filled in paperwork and your over paid check and you should be good to go. this has always worked for me. good luck.

Unless it's a title transfer within the family, you'll need to pay tax on it too, so it'll be more than $15.

Just make an appointment and go in during your lunch break to your nearest DMV. Doesn't need to be the one closest to home, the one closest to work will do just fine. Should be in and out in under a half hour if you have an appointment.

I think i am going to just be one day late. I am out of the countty atm. I wish i could just mail it in.

Call up the DMV and see if they can answer your question. I guess if you were really worried about it, you could transfer it to a friend and then back to you once you get back in town.

I dont think its a DMV issue... I think the cops are the ones who would give you a ticket for not doing it in the 10 days. Would I? No, just get it done as soon as you can.

Like Rel says, I don't think the DMV makes an issue of it. Last time I had to transfer a title on a bike I had bought, I went onto the DMV website to get an appointment, and the earliest one was over 3 weeks away. I took the appointment, titled it and DMV never said a thing and did not charge anything in excess of the normal fees.

Alright thats good to hear. I will just be one day late. I am not riding the bike while i am out of the country, so there will be no police issues.

I've never completed a transfer within 10 days, always way longer and never had a problem from AAA or DMV.

If I recall, you have to do it in person.

It's been years since I've done it, but I've mailed everything in before. I sent a check with all the paperwork (took a stab at the fees and added some cushion). Then, a few weeks later a new title showed up and I had a credit for overpaying.

you guys were all paying the late fees and not knowing it.

ask them for a receipt that itemizes everything out.

their look is :wtf

i got screwed last time i bought my trackbike, i told the idiot DMV lady i wanted the bike to be on NON-OP, blah blah blah, she goes on to tell me the previous owner already paid registration good till next year, just wait for the registration renewal to come in the mail, check the non-op box and your good.....

yea sounds good UNTIL

i get slammed with a letter from DMV saying they are going to restrict or prohibit or prevent or whatever removing the registration because I have not provided proof of insurance within 14x days or whatever.

Now i have to pay some fee and fill out paperwork and go into the DMV again to get the bike removed from that restricted list, all thanks to the idiot bitch that didnt want to do her f'n job in the first place......
