I want a real Van

We have a 2008 Sprinter Dually. This thing is the boss! It's our second one and it's a total Road Warrior.

I'd also love to have an early Dodge 4X$ Scooby Dooby Doo van :cool

Something like this would be awesome. Side pipes, spoiler and wood interior FTW!

I don't think you're nuts, but I would personally plunk down more money and get a modern van. if you really want to go 80's then paint a mural on the side.

This :thumbup

Now that we have an empty nest, my wife and I are looking to get a Sprinter and set it up with AWD for backwoods and desert camping as well as a toy hauler for track days and windsurfing trips.

I took one out for a test drive and it was a real eye opener in a very good way :thumbup

Dude, if you're gonna go with a black one, you should do it right and make sure to add the wing and red stripe.

I had a 71 Chevy van with a Corvette motor awhile ago. Big wide tires, and everything. It went everywhere.
horrific mileage.

I have an old Chevy van, rebuilt 350ci 400HP, Th400, 3:40 rear gear posi,
I put a 1998 front grill & 3/4 ton suspension....Its a good camper, hauler, work truck.
I built it to pull offshore powerboats out of the marina in Discovery Bay.

when i first came to America and living in Brooklyn, there were lot of people at the time into customized vans...people had all kinds of nicknames for them but mostly it was the scooby van or party mobile...

anyways, the most popular magazine in the area and at the time was Custom Vans...was kind of like the bible back in the day...

I first visited the US in 1981 and had the opportunity to borrow a custom Chevy Van for a road trip from San Fran to San Diego and back.

At first I was gaga for the opportunity - as a Brit we could only dream of the V8 vans we watched on the A Team.

3 hrs into the road trip I regretted borrowing it. What an utter piece of crap it was. Heavy, lumbering, gutless and pathetic gas mileage, to the point that we seemed to be constantly stopping for gas. It still ranks as one of the biggest disappointments of my life. :laughing

I know some awesome custom vans have been built - this was not one of them :laughing

D00d, do it! I have always wanted a van, but just couldn't pull the trigger. After trying to squeeze my family in a extended cab truck, I said fuck it....now is the time. I needed something big enough to pull my trailer. I would have liked to get a kick ass time machine, but needed something with a little more creature comfort. I seen the 4x4 vans and knew that's what I wanted. Picked one up a couple weeks ago and I constantly think of all the wonderful things I can do with it. Maybe after a while I will want my truck back, but I'd never know unless I tried it. Van people say they never go back. They have a creep factor and aren't the prettiest, but if it ends up being the best all around vehicle I've owned, I'll take it. Wife doesn't feel the van factor, but I'll give her some time to see the light.

My brother is a Sonoma County hillbilly floor guy, se he has vans in his yard. If you want to buy a cheap beater van that you can invest some money into fixing up. Let me know and I'll see what kind of starters he has in his hard. :laughing
