How California's New 100 MPH License Rule Changes Monterey Car Week for Drivers
California's FAST program changes Monterey Car Week by allowing the Department of Motor Vehicles to instantly suspend licenses for speeds over 100 mph without waiting for a court conviction. State data shows over 94% of these administrative suspension and re-examination actions are upheld upon review.
The old mental model went like this: get clocked, take the citation, hire a lawyer, show up in court, maybe get it knocked to a non-point violation, pay the fine, go home. Annoying, expensive, survivable. That model is obsolete for one specific number.
In December 2025, the California DMV and CHP launched a joint pilot called Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets, or FAST. Every citation written for driving more than 100 mph automatically kicks a referral to the DMV's Driver Safety Branch. Driver Safety then reviews the incident and your record to decide whether to suspend or revoke your license.

My nephew has a Ferrari and he attends Monterey Car Week annually so he was talking about this the other day. I'm just curious if DMV is just targeting exotic cars or all vehicles but the article did point out "every citation written for driving more than 100 mph...." so I'm sure it applies to all.
