Sounds cold, but it's a risk they take by coming here illegally and making sure their kids are citizens.
Honestly, though, a lot of those kids likely have a better chance in foster care than they do in many Central American countries. So many gangs and violence and corruption. The American foster and orphan system ain't glamorous, but it's better than being given a gun at 13 to defend your new "family" of broken people.
Only way I see this being "fixed" is is they alter the whole citizenship by birth rule. If kids weren't citizens by merely being born here, or became them once they were 18, we'd have less women coming across the border to bear them.
They are people, yes...and I feel for their plight in their home country, but we have to take care of our country's people, first. Our children, our veterans, our elderly. No citizen should have to wait behind someone here illegally for food or medical care, only to be given a part of their portion anyhow.
