If you lived in a world without electronics and tech...

...what would you do/be? Imagine, if you could, a world in which electronics and tech simply did not and had never existed. Imagine, if you could, a world with little infrastructure aside from a few cities - or perhaps plenty of infrastructure but simply not based around modern conveniences as we know them. Something akin to the Roman Empire days, perhaps further back. The eagle huntress thread got me thinking about this.

What would you do with a comparatively "simpler" life? What would you be? What would you LIKE to do/have been?

Me personally? I think I'd probably have ended up a smith. Or perhaps a stonemason/engineer of some sort. Not sure...beginnings of a thought while I made this thread. I'll come back to it.

edit - for the simple sake of letting your imagination run wild, let's say disease was of no concern and the average lifespan was 80 years, male/female both. There's ultra rural/undeveloped areas where you could live like a monk, and developed areas like Rome. Regardless of where/how you live, you will have no problems obtaining food or providing for yourself and/or a family (ie, logistics are not an issue, but could certainly factor into your decision if you so choose).

Also, let's assume any hierarchy/status was attainable as well - you could be the chef for a restaurant, the emperor, whoever. Maybe this world doesn't have any emperors and you're simply the best chef in a small village. Describe the setting as well as your place in it.

Heh if its anything like School era I attended. No calculators, computers or Cell Phones oH MY ! We did just fine, seeing we didn't know what we were missing :laughing

People who didn't have high tech when growing up can easily do without it.

lol sorry
I was actually laughing as I typed that.

I would probably be a farmer

I was laughing too I was just caught off guard that someone was able to throw a monkey wrench into my idea so quickly. I think that's a BARF record. Thread derailed within 2 minutes.

Pete :love

I was going to say, "dying from a plague" but Mr. Happy beat me to it.

Mistral or Axe wielding Knight, wouldn't have made to 80 though, dead at 35 from the syphilis.

No tech eh?

So you're saying we COULD still ride Harleys? Or am I reading this all wrong?

:teeth

I'm good with engines and I'm learning to weld. I'd be whatever comes after being a blacksmith, I guess like you an engineer or project manager.

i'd build stuff in trees! i spent so much of my youth at broken leg heights, that it seems logical that i'd end up living in a home above ground:thumbup

Keep in mind that almost everyone was a manual laborer of some type before the age of the printed word.

I would be happy keeping a farmer's life, up before dawn tending my fields and flock, 6-7 days a week?
