Hey peeps! I'm look'n into fairings for a 2001 R1 and was checking out the imported ones on ebay. Any thoughts?

Imported from Japan?

I think hes after cheap Chinese or Mexican fairings.

Assuming it's this, a few friends and I have had great experience buying 3rd party fairings from China. They fit well, and the producers can match your paint scheme if you send them pictures. THere are also some very cool race replica fairings for good prices. The only drawback is that shipping can take 2-3 weeks.

Jdhu- thanks man! I've going over ebay and see some really cool fairings for under or around $500. I was concerned they wouldn't fit right, such as the tabs not lining up.

No problem. Obviously can't guarantee anything, but my friends and I have all had good experiences with them. You might try messaging them too about the fairings you want, and then paying them directly (via PayPal, etc.). This way, you cut ebay out, and they can reduce the price for you a bit.

I bought a front fairing and "double bubble" windshield that fit perfectly, and a friend of mine bought an entire replica set, which also fit perfectly.

This is from a thread in Moto Photos and Videos. OP told me he got the fairings from Auctmart for $550, might wanna go look them up.

We emailed one of the Chinese companies about just an upper for my son's F2 instead of an entire fairing. They said no problem. It was finished in gloss black which is what we wanted and fit as good as the original.

I've got a set of Chinese made fairings on my 675. I use these instead of track fairings.

The good:
Cheap
Fit shockingly well
Cheap
Paint looks great
Decals look stock
Cheap

The Bad:
They're more brittle, hence they crack easily

I've noticed a few tabs on mine have cracked. Given what I paid, I'm not too terribly upset. If you figure the service life of these to be 3 - 4 years you'll not be disappointed.

I hated the chinese fairings I had. Big gaps. Picked up some OEM ones to repair instead.

See, we're not always dicks.
:laughing

i swapped some chinese fairings onto a cbr600 and a lot fit up right and well but the front was a bitch to get on and line up. if you are only looking for one or two parts suck it up and go oem or check out fremont cycle salvage or the other one in the south bay and see if they have fairings without cracks and scratches for your bike. its highly unlikely since its a 12 yo bike but you never know.

Awesome awesome! Fremont cycle. I have to call back tomorrow. Once again, thanks peeps. ;0)

Chinese made fairing kits are CRAP. You get what you pay for.
They may look nice and shiney at the start but they are made from cheaper flimsy, thinner plastic than the originals. The paint fades quickly and they crack if you look at them the wrong way.
I have NEVER seen a set bolt up without modification.

Sigh......

I have a set. I put them on myself. It was easy. Every bolt hole matched up with no modification required.

In three years the paint on mine looks brand new. No fading at all.

Yes, they are more brittle and crack easier than stock. Look at them the wrong way? No. Drop the bike? Yes.

Given that you can get two complete sets cheaper than one set of painted Sharkskinz you can decide the value proposition. I'd rather have a set of the Chinese made I bought than a rashed up set of OEM any time.

As I said before, look at these with a 3-4 year lifespan and you will not be disappointed.

Squidly- Do you remember what site you bought your set up from?

I bought from seller windscreen2011. The guy's name is Peter, good communication, will make parts for your year if he doesn't have right now, match paint colors, etc.

I think these guys maybe get the fairings from the same suppliers, and are just retailers (just a guess, but because their prices are all about the same, webpages look about the same, etc.).

You can inquire about paying him directly (he may bring it up himself), which will save you some $$.
