Installing trailer hitch for sedan

so it does not need to be wielded to the frame? Just bolting it on is good enough?

I'm planning to get Class 1 (2000lbs). Normally i will be carrying one bike, but it could pull 2 also while staying within the weight limit, correct?

Thanks again

ALex - you might also want to get a transmission and PS cooler while you're doing this. Honduh's are notoriously reknown not to be great towing vehicles. Heck, my damn Honduh Pilot can only tow a measely 1500lbs, unless i throw on the aforementioned coolers, then the the capacity jumps to around 3800lbs (still weak i know but sufficient for my use).

yea man... you must be kidding.

1500lbs+ is nothing for 240hp SUV.

the Honda webiste lists 4500lbs+ for Honda Pilot
-----------------
Towing Capacity (lbs.) 4500† 4500†

Alex - did you read the fine print???!!! ;)

†Towing requires installation of power steering fluid- and automatic tranmission fluid-cooler, both available exclusively from your Honda dealer. Premium unleaded fuel increases engine torque and is recommended when towing above 3500 lbs. Maximum towing capacity is 4500 lbs. for boat trailers and 3500 lbs. for all other trailers. Premium unleaded fuel is recommended when towing above 3500 lbs. Refer to the Owner's Manual for additional towing information.

And as for the owners manual...can't tow more than 1500lbs without it... :(

You should also check the capacity of your car in addition to the hitch. Putting a 2000lb capacity hitch won't give you 2000lb if your car can only handle 1000lb (like my Saturn, which is why I bought a special strong but lightweight trailer made just for motorcycles). Tows 1 bike great, but will probably need to beef up the rear suspension for 2 bikes (though I'd still be near my cars towing capacity)

generally they are just bolted on with 4 bolts BUT depending on your vehicle the holes may not exist. On my pathfinder, 2 holes existed and the other two 1" holes had to be drilled.

also, I'd second getting the highest hitch you can, the cost difference is minimal and you might as well have the capacity.

Hey UnixGal, what type of trailer is that? Where can you pick one up and how much did it cost?

Thanks

My New Trailer

I just picked up my trailer from the shipping company (in Oakland) last week. It was designed by a couple of motorcyclists in Georgia and is built for them by a company that makes trailers. It has an awesome suspension :thumbup. It can take 1 bike or 2 and each rail is its own ramp :teeth :cool for really easy loading.

Here is a link: Motorsport Trailers. If you are interested drop an email to Vic (listed on the page), he's a nice guy and aims to please.

btw: I got mine otd w/accessories and shipping for around 1500.

btw> alex i'd also look up the total gvwr (gross vehicle weight rating) for your vehicle. this is the total weight of your vehicle combined with anything you can tow and passengers. exceed it and don't expect too much of a long life with that nice TL of yours :(
