Is masturbation a sin/wrong per the bible...?

I'm disappointed that I'm the first to post this

To answer the OP, it more has to do with the thought process. I don't know, but I was told that thinking about impure sexual things is just as bad as actually doing it...doesn't mean you should actaully do it- that is what I was told. Also, not sure where in the bible it says, but there was something in it saying, which is obviously an example it is using, that to look at another woman (referring to a married man) with a lustful eye is committing adultery in itself.

That is what I know that's a straigtfoward, serious answer to the OP, and that may be what the "religious" people being referred may think.

Edit: didn't read the thread before I posted. Some of the other posts I think answer well what he OP was asking. By the way, If I was married and I was away, I wouldn't mind at all my man strokin it for me. bwahahaha! :laughing I don't think anyone Christian in that scenario should find anything wrong with that.

Doug Stanhope has a good theory on sex, masturbation and why religion and government have the views they do on his No Refunds DVD. :p

I think that you vastly underestimate the piousness of many people in this puritanical country! ;)

It also depends on what version of the Bible you use. Not all are the same.:|

The translations are identical for both KJV and NSRV. Those two versions represent a VAST majority of the English translations used by Engllish speaking christians.

It amazes me that anyone would take such an ancient out-dated piece of work, which has been translated numerous times from numerous languages, and attempt to take it literally.

It's also astonishing that anyone would attempt to apply the same silly, "rules" to everyone else in the world.

Something is only bad or "sin" when you believe it is, and the only person or being with the power to condemn you is yourself.

You're using your brain. Religion as an institution does not approve this process.

There are a lot of retards out there who call themselves "Christians".

Your hairy palms are affecting your spelling choices. :x

P.S. A lot of sinners in this thread. I am telling god and he will strike you down. Just like he struck Or and his brother down.

English Speaking PROTESTANT denominations of christianity.

Catholics use both the KJV as well as the NSRV. All of the Catholics I've met (my wife is RC, so I'm including her family and all the church goers her family associated with) used one or the other; admittedly a vast majority used KJV. The text in Matthew I mentioned earlier is identical in both versions.

The point being that those who say that Jesus relieved the needs of following the rules of the OT are ignoring surprisingly clear statements attributed to Jesus that are contrary to this belief. These statements are identical in the most popular versions of the bible in American Christianity (both Catholic and Protestant). Of course the bible (in any of its forms or translations) is such a self-contradictory work, you can find quotes to support nearly any stance you want to take. One would think the supreme being in all of the universe and creator of everything would be able to communicate in a more clear and understandable manner.

Personally, I think the whole bible is a bunch of bunk, but those who believe should at least take the time to read the damn thing.
