Is Motorcycle Consumer News (USA) going out of business?

The March issue is out and it is a WTF issue. The editorials are at the back of the magazine. No bike reviews, but has a gigantic sunglasses buyers guide. For those that subscribe online. You will know what I'm talking about once you go through it. Happy reading

Be sure to enjoy the picture of lions mating on page 19. :wtf

I don't read MCN, haven't in years.

Clearly they're going through a tumultuous transition of some kind.

If you're a fan, I'd just ride it out with hopes that the company will extend subscriptions to compensate for the drek they seem to be struggling to put out now. Apparently the mandate is that they "must publish a magazine" with little regards to content.

Is there an editorial inside explaining any of this?

No Editor's column and no letters to the editor on the subject.

No motorcycle reviews but on the back cover they do promise three motorcycle reviews for the next issue.

Their website is very poor and rarely updated and they killed the forum as DataDan said after complaints began to surface from the few posters active there.

The web site forum came back to life yesterday.
I hope that is a sign that they are not giving up at MCN.

Got an e'mail with my digital copy about 10 days ago but still no hard copy delivered to my house.

The space has between the two has always been less than a week.

Hmmmmm.

I met Searle when he crashed at a KTM press junket at Laguna in '09. Visited him in the hospital. He was so out of it on opiates he probably woke up the next day with the stuffed seal toy I gave him wondering "WTF?"
But back to the topic- I think MCN would do better as an online publication, don't you?

Got my 'hard copy' a couple days ago. I haven't picked up a copy in years and wow they sure have gotten thin, you guys weren't kidding.

They promised bike tests and there were none. :thumbdown

And no explanation for the fucked up situation even though Searle printed a column and others including Searle answered questions in Letters to the Editor, (not a one which complained about the fucked up issues so those were obviously ignored as there had to be a bunch of them).

The forum is back as someone else said without an explanation for it's being pulled for a month or more and DataDan accurately explains the many problems including David Hough's apparent drift into insanity, (ie. he thinks training does not make better riders and that helmets and gear in general are of no value now :wtf).

I'm not sure the magazine will ever recover because at this point, and after decades of subscribing, I have no intention to renew when my current subscription expires.

Yeah, but you now have good info on what sunglasses to choose. :laughing

Give them a chance to get it sorted, guys. This has consistently been my favorite publication with tons of helpful info, unbiased reviews, and no adds. They are going through a transition for sure, but I'll hang in there and see if they are able to right the ship.

This has also consistently been my favorite publication, but I think they could do themselves a really big favor by making an unequivocal statement about the state of things and tell us what they are doing to rectify it. It would help them retain long time readers.

That said, the last two issues have been worth the $5.00/12 = $0.42 I paid for them.

I'm doing exactly this. Two more issues is what I told myself.

edit: unless they have another Moto Guzzi review. I've never figured out their infatuation with those oddballs, but to be fair, it's not that easy to find Moto Guzzi reviews...

I love Guzzi reviews, and am bored to tears by cruiser reviews, unless that cruiser is a Guzzi. At least those can get around a corner.
