Itching for a Bug

They roll very smoothly…..
My friend had a VW Bug with a modified motor and drove it fast on the street.
One day he was claiming how good it handled…. He 360 Rolled it when it pitched out the rear wheels.
Rear window popped out and it looked in my opinion better with the roof and all 4 corners smashed in.
Not much other damage, just needed to pull the fenders off the tires so they wouldn’t rub and puncture.
He continued to drive it for sometime.
Always a conversation started when anyone noticed it.
Eventually started off roading it and finally finished it off when he jumped it blew out all the push rods when it bottomed out on landing.
The reason these are worth money now is cause so many people beat the holy shit out of them and send them to the junkyard.
Just saying….

"I personally wouldn't buy anything that's NOT collectable...like a Karmann Ghia...Or hell...a 914".

Are you saying Karmann Ghia's aren't collectable? I'd certainly consider a Ghia over a Bug.
Ha, ha... I think the GD would love a  Karmann Ghia!

My wife would look great in that! :thumbup

What hitch weight will that hold Tux? I've got an idea....

You know, my sisters and I were all trained on VW Karmen Ghias then Porsche 912s and eventually the 911s. AT 12 I could drop the motor out of an air-cooled VW faster than my stupid cousin who my dad seemed to like more than me.
Cool thing to know, the pushrods are super easy to steal out of a car on the lot, in case that shady ass used car dealer up the road ever screws you over on the Datsun Truck you bought as a teenager ;)
SHe'll have a blast learning how to care for it Elfin. Also, lots of mods available, I'd start with an electronic ignition and upgrade the carb.

One word: Notchback

In order of desire:
  1. Notch
  2. Fast
  3. Square
  4. Beetle
The absence of the Ghia is not a mistake.

Rebuilds bugs. I wasn't talking about notchbacks. I had not quoted Augustiron. BUGS.

Pedantic much?

Hens teeth and all that....

Hens’ teeth” and all that… you’re talking over my head, which honestly isn’t that hard to do.
Keep ’em coming though I learn something every time.

Like rare as hen’s teeth because hens don’t have teeth.
Yeah probably never seen a Notch Back VW….

whoa... cool stuff. I forgot what the niece finally got. Something practical.

well AI says

If you are using the Beetle to tow a trailer
Because the 1960 Beetle is a lightweight vehicle with a rear-mounted engine, its towing capacity is very limited. [1, 2, 3]
    • Weight Limits: Experts generally cap the towing capacity at around 880 lbs for a trailer without brakes, and 1,100 lbs for a trailer with brakes. [1]
    • Hitch Style: You will need a Class 1 hitch designed specifically for a classic Beetle. Never attach a hitch or tow bar to the fragile bumper brackets; they must be mounted securely to the structural torsion bar tubes or the frame rails. [1, 2, 3]
    • Performance: Expect slow acceleration, and be incredibly mindful of your stopping distance. Classic Beetle drum brakes are not meant for heavy modern loads. [1]

Elfin here for real. Thanks Hubby, i mean Butch! Her mom found a pactical car for her. She hated it. Then realized that she has a car. Not the bug she wanted but it’s wheels. Now she likes the practical car. Now to teach her to drive a straight drive!

My 16 year old granddaughter wants an OLD BUG. My daughter bought her a new 2026 Bronco sport.
She drives the Bronco but still says she wants an old bug. :dunno

My daughter bought her a new 2026 Bronco sport.

When you see me in person, ask about the time I bought a Bronco Sport in the shower by accident. True story, that just keep getting worse.
