Ivermectin and cOVID-19

Doubt it, more likely a study paid for by proponents of it. In order to keep the money flowing, some people will get the results that are desired.

Why is that in scare quotes? That's literally what it's used for.

What I love about what that trial showed is that there are genetic mutations for which Ivermectin use causes serious side effects; serious enough that those with mutations were removed from the trial and replaced; serious enough that the study called them "Serious Adverse Effects" in 5/6 cases. Those are the sorts of issues with adoption- when 16.6% of the population is at risk of seriously adverse effects from a medication, generally that medication isn't approved for widespread use.

I wonder how many OP's link shows? Oh, none. They didn't screen for it. The study was also conducted in Bulgaria on behalf of a French company trying to get approval to sell Ivermectin in the EU. Hmmmm.

So yeah, far from vindicated IMO. Just PR'ed some more.

Info about ivermectin from before covid...

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3043740/

About it's use....it is like saying "warm water - a butt washing liquid" ... but it is also used for tea....

Some points about the safety and side effects...

3.7 billion doses administered world wide ....

And .....

"Based on the data drug safety sheet for ivermectin (New Drug Application Identifier: 50-742/S-022), side effects were uncommon and limited. Reported side effects with more than 1% occurrence included elevation in alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase (2%), nausea (2%), diarrhea (2%), decreased leukocyte count (3%), peripheral edema (3%), tachycardia (3%), dizziness (3%), and pruritus (3%). A pharmacokinetic study of 166 patients reported side effects of headache (6%), dysmenorrhea (5.5%), upper respiratory infection symptoms (1.8%), and diarrhea (1.8%).5"

Somesuch, what's the point of revisiting this topic at this point? And I'm not just talking about Ivermectin, I'm talking Covid overall. You surely have something more to contribute to BARF than this. And if you don't, perhaps you should go and think about that some before posting again.

NO U!

(sorry dh, just doing what needs doing around here, you understand)

Mostly trying to learn from the past.

No really understanding how you mean it.

How about letting sleeping dogs lie? The next time we have a pandemic, we can revisit this.

What form of Ivermectin can you get?

Not the one in the study...

The SAIVE study was conducted to support mdc-TTG program, whose objective is to provide prevention of Covid-19 infection for weeks or months with a single injection of a long-acting formulation of ivermectin based on MedinCell’s proprietary technology, BEPO®

You are aware how the medication is administered can drastically change it's efficacy, right? Follow up with the underline and... I sure hope the study was double blind.

I haven't even read the study, that's just the link you provided and I can already say, these are not the studies you are looking for. (Coupled with the fact that they don't provide a link to said study in their press release. They are simply hoping more people like you do exactly what you did...)

EDIT: They're not releasing the study at this time, so this is all we really have to go off of. They are using this study to generate funding for the development of a ivermectin injectable, which raises flags but... it seems like a good study. FWIW, they're using Ivermectin as a prophylactic and not a treatment. Therefore, once you've been diagnosed, it would be off label to treat you with it.

Note: this publication is not a recommendation to use ivermectin against Covid-19.

The SAIVE Trial (NCT 05305560) is a Phase 2, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group clinical study, evaluating the safety and efficacy of ivermectin tablets taken orally for 28 days, under the oversight of a U.S. based independent Data Monitoring Committee. The study was conducted in Bulgaria between March and November 2022.

All participants were unvaccinated adults and had been exposed to the virus within 5 days of screening after documented close contact with a person who had a PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Participants randomized to ivermectin group showed a highly statistically significant reduction (72%) of laboratory-confirmed infections between baseline and Day 28 (30/200) versus placebo (105/199), the study's primary endpoint, with p<0,0001. No safety signals related to daily intake of ivermectin, 200 microgram/kg on Day 1 then 100 microgram/kg daily from Day 2 to Day 28 were identified during the study.

The company plans to share the final analysis of the study in a peer-reviewed publication at a later date.

“The SAIVE study provides encouraging data demonstrating efficacy and safety of ivermectin in prevention of Covid-19 infection in a post-exposure situation. It supports the development of a long-acting injectable, said Christophe Douat, CEO of MedinCell. Such a long-acting injectable would provide a complementary tool against Covid-19. Several candidate formulations of ivermectin are ready for clinical batch manufacturing to start regulatory preclinical and clinical development. We will be reviewing the strategy for this asset based on this
top line result and the upcoming comprehensive analysis of the study.”

FWIW: I don't understand all the hoopla about taking something off label. Lots of treatment paths have been created by identifying off label treatments. Cigarette cessation and erection pills are top of mind, both were simply side effects of a medication.

If you want to take Ivermectin then so be it. Just don't be mad if your Dr won't prescribe it.

@Yakoo, thank you for your analysis. It is helpfull to see points of view that might be obscured by my intellect :)

Remembering chinese proverb "Dig the well before you are thirsty." :)

One link I chose, was very recent, and so is a new information that was not available before, another side effects supporting link was pre-covid so as not to be tainted by covid interpretation lense... neither was meant to be abrasive nor aggravating

Does anyone know what the source is of considering ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine as a treatment? Why wouldn't a conspiracy gai at least have chosen some anti-viral over an anti-parasitic?

Can we re-visit the effectiveness of butthole lasers and bleach chugging?
Also, I heard on a podcast somewhere that taint tanning kills COVID.

Uh-huh. :rolleyes

Better to take one of the vaccines as a prophylactic measure. They're widely available and efficacy is proven. But if you're a dim bulb and prefer horse paste, be my guest :rolleyes
