James Stewart Suspended from 2015 SX

Was he taking it as directed? Did he have more in his system than what would be considered normal based on his prescription? Adderall is also considered a performance enhancer and if not taken as prescribed it could have that effect on the individual.

I've had Soldiers fail drug tests in the past because they were overdosing on prescribed medication.

From my understanding it was a prescription but you are probably smart enough to know why it was prescribed in the 1st place. However I understand now if the same thing were to happen to another rider it would be ok and they wouldn't be punished because of a new rule that was implemented.

I wondered the same and have not been able to find any details.

If it is abused, the he obviously deserves the suspension. But if he was taking it as prescribed, I find it hard to agree with the FIM.

He was diagnosed with ADHD early on in his life. Unfortunately he failed to submit the proper paperwork to the FIM and WADA making them aware of his prescription prior to being tested. It came up and he was suspended shortly after. He has since then filed the proper paperwork and it has been approved, but it's too little too late.

This is unfortunate news. Bubba puts a lot of butts in seats each week (not as many as he used to, perhaps, but still a lot). I'm all for strict substance abuse policies in professional sports, but they need to be well thought out and well enforced. I don't have enough information to say whether this is the case here or not. :dunno

All I know is that I will miss watching him this season. :(

Everyone and there moms is diagnosed with ADHD. Everyone and their mom's KNOW Adderal is the drug of choice for athletes because of what it does... so.... kinda not feeling bad for the guy right now.

Bubba is always entertaining, whether winning or crashing, but ah well - there's still a lineup of great riders, and I am really looking forward to SX.

And with the fast Ryan out, it's anyone's game.

:laughing

He can do pretty well on his own, methinks!

Because I never miss a chance to repost the ultimate holy fuck moment.

So much this. The 'I had a prescription and didn't know I needed to file paperwork' argument is total bullshit at this point. All the athletes know and have for years. Either they're full of shit or they're total retards. Either way, absolutely proper for them to be suspended based on the rules.

WADA started to officiate the drug testing in 2014. Regardless, it's not a drug abuse case as much as it is penalty for not following the rules that are enforced for every rider. Guilty as hell, but 16 months seems excessive.

Yeah, agreed, I was thinking the same thing, just a tad harsh to skip the entire season.

He was able to ride all this year, at least. He did get arrested for impersonating an officer a couple of years ago. Maybe the FIM and whomever are concerned about him getting out-of-whack, or he was on probation. I have no idea. A full year is quite some time considering his pay scale.

Stewart is supposed to be a professional rider. It's his job to know the rules, there is no excuse for not knowing and following the rules. Evidently the FIM feels the same way.

iirc
SX is under FIM regulation
MX is not

therefore he was not able to finish out the SX season but was able to race MX

Stewart knew the rules and knew the potential penalty. This is discussed in every riders meeting (that I've sat in on). They even call out that you should mention ALL prescription drugs you are on...

Stewart didn't follow the rules. Doping is in the news. To not think someone would be made an example of is dumb.

Is there a correlation between his doping bust and his results in MX :dunno

I believe both are under the AMA which is in bed tight with FIM
