I really liked this guy.

:teeth

It was hard to see him through the haze of cigarette smoke! :laughing

That would NEVER be allowed in today's tolerant society. :p

I am digging FALLON in the premiere spot. His rap compilation with Timberlake was quite epic. Other skits, his standup, the deal with Seinfeld & Farrell all good.

Quite the launch.

Pure talent I think Jimmy Fallon wins. I don't see him being entertaining to the 40 and up crowd however. Leno is terrible. He's pure standup but a terrible host.

Letterman and Connan are on par. Both quirky and quick witted.

Furgusan (spelling) is obnoxious, no like.

Kimmel is doing well. I think He's behind Fallon on my list. Again, don't see him catering to the above 40 demo either. He and Kimmel use tech, youtube, and the like.

That said, watching Carson videos I think the guy was a genius. He did random disguised stuff and was very witty.

After giving it a couple seconds of thought I don't see how it even matters. Someone behind the scenes is writing the jokes, its been decided before going on air what the conversation will be.
I watch for the guests and the bands that sometimes appear.

Making a big deal about the host isn't much different than making a big deal about what anchorman reads the news.

Leno was hated by the late night fraternity that figured they were the rightful heir to irrelevant timeslot humor, yet he is a good guy all things considered.

Once you've seen Carson nothing else comes close. Fallon is a moron but the young folk like him :thumbup

I'm still tuning around. The overly loud rambunctious applause at 12 midnight is a real turn-off during the week. It's OK for a weekend show but it just annoying in the late evening.
Conan should have taken the 12pm time slot at NBC when he had the chance, he might have been the ratings winner by this time.

So happy Leno is gone. Fallon has re energized that time slot. His first two weeks have been awesome and I hope he keeps it up !! :thumbup

Why watch any of these shows with for the most part, poorly written jokes, and celebrities who are obviously only there to schill their latest movie or whatever....when there's perfectly good soft core porn movies playing on Cinemax at the same time these shows are on?

i'm a bit of a late night junky.

each host has their own angle, each have their strengths and weaknesses (fallon is strong with music bits, kimmel and pranks, conan with experimental skits, leno does a bit of everything, letterman with his grumpy old guy routine). the quality and range of bits/skits has really improved over the decades.

they have a bit of filler, but once in a while do something impressive. bono ending fallon's first show with "ordinary love" was fantastic:

i also like watching how the person interacts with the host. you can see some hate being there, others do elaborate bits (bill murrray is consistently great). some are divas, others are down to earth and some are insane (like crispin glover; go to 2m10s for the interesting part):

late night isn't for everyone. but if you go in with low expectations you get surprised once in a while.
