Jeep Compass - Thoughts?

For what seemed like decades, Land Rover was very much at the bottom of the list by a good margin for dependability. Yet they still sold Discoverys and Range Rovers at a pretty good pace.

Jeep trades on its name to sell garbage like the Compass, Patriot, and the new Cherokee. But really, if it wasn’t for the Grand Cherokee and the absurdly good selling Wrangler (and it’s even more absurdly good resale values), they wouldn’t be around anymore.

lol, I want a 2010-2012 Range Rover L322 some day :laughing

I don't understand how Jeep is still in business. They are consistently in the top 10 WORST vehicles, along with Chryslers and parent company Fiat. Just a toilet bowl of mechanical shit that should have been flushed decades ago.

it's a jeep thing. you wouldn't understand.

:barf

Jeep's are a POS. I'd never recommend anyone to buy one. That being said, I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, lol. I'll say this, it's the most disappointing, comfortable car that has never let me down yet (my old XC90 stranded my a few times).

It does this weird wobble infrequently when taking off (front axles, transmission/ecu communication issue??). I took it to Jeep a couple times and they were of no help. The transmission is sort of schizophrenic...it was their new 9-speed automatic which I've never seen it go into 9th gear, I don't even know if it will.

But I pile the dogs in and drive them around everywhere...I literally beat the shit out of the car, go off-roading without a care, my wife even rear ended a truck and we never bother fixing the cracked lower grill. It's got 87K miles on it and it's very comfortable to drive and the stereo sounds good. Other than that, I hate it, never buy one.

The Compass simply looks like a POS. At least the Grand Cherokee looks good whether it’s reliable or not.

:laughing

Even the later Tata made ones?

So have a look at this...

2013-362998-j-d-power-2013-u-s-vehicle-dependability-study1.jpg

The dependability study surveys owners of three year old cars how much went wrong with their cars in the past year. The more commonly referenced initial quality study surveys owners of vehicles for the first 90 days of ownership. I personally like the dependability study because that’s more reflective of how expensive life will be for you when a vehicle is off warranty. So this chart would indicate that 2010 model year Range Rovers are no beuno.

Here’s the 2015 study which covers 2012 model year Range Rovers. Also not exactly comforting results

You’ve been warned.

I thought Subaru would be a bit higher.........

I thought the 4 runner killed off the jeep. I like the old ones but if you go fuck around offroad having your truck shit the bed might be a major pain. I heard good
Things about the big 4.0 amc engine

I once rented one while on vacation. I, initially, was excited because the Compass had <300 miles on it. As soon as I went to shift the thing from P to D; the entire (Plastic) cluster moved.

and i'm a bit surprised ford is on the shitty side of average while BMW and audi are on the good side. our 2013 ford focus has been solid as a rock, but i still wish it had the 2.7t motor from the audi it replaced

:laughing

Bought a 2016 Wrangler with 3000 miles from the dealer last year in February for $26000. Traded it in for a Civic last month with 24000 miles for $23000.

Dang, I wanted to go off roading with you when I finally get around to getting a Rover. :x

Our Volvo is the least reliable car I’ve ever owned, by a wide margin.

1998 V70 turbo wagon. Pre motorcraft, all Bosch fuel components. 290K miles. First 175 were original owner. I took it over 200 commuting from SD to SF, then sold to friends college age daughter. She’s pummeling it into the ground and testing its crash worthiness, and yet it runs like it did when I bought it.

Volvo has model and year specific issues. That’s why you see ‘01 AWD wagons going for $500 on CL. A lot of blame should be shared by owners ignoring torn CV boots and basic upkeep.

This may or may not shock the motor heads here, but not one licensed and driving high school senior in my classes knows what type of motor is under their hood, the cars gas mileage, or how to properly change a tire. They will YouTube that shit when it’s need to know yo!
