Just scored my "Dream" bike

I owned one of the originals (see my avatar) and raced it only once (to get racing out of my system - worked perfectly). I sold it a restoration expert in southern California who did a magnificent restoration of the CR and still has it today in his large collection.

The model you have is quite rare I believe, I wonder how many they actually made. I have heard from a few reliable sources that only about 250 of the original CR110s were hand made. I got real lucky when I found mine (and I wasn't even really searching for it).

I lived in Japan from 1958-1962. From 1960-1962 we lived on a Japanese airbase and since I was in the 6th & 7th grade was old enough to start riding the light bikes and mopeds they had everywhere.

Lots of motorcycle enthusiasm amongst our American families and great interest in the International GP scene. This was Honda's racing heyday and part of that was the introduction of their series of production road racers. I became infatuated with the series (CR110, CR93, CR72 & CR77) and wished I could have snagged one while we were there. With no money and no income, it was a non-starter.

Fast forward to 1971 and living in Cupertino at the time and I was cruising the classifieds in the SJ Mercury and came across an ad with several motorcycles for sale, including an "8-speed Honda racing bike". These had been taken in by an attorney whose client could not afford his legal bills. Attorney was clueless regarding motorcycles. Long story short, I bought the CR (which was in remarkable original condition) for $350.00. I couldn't believe my good fortune.

I loved my 4 stroke CB50 as a teenager in the 70s in Belgium.

Still wish I had it.

That being said what the OP found is :wtf:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

I can only imagine how it looks in the flesh as the photos are gorgeous.
 
What this thread is clearly lacking is a video clip so we can hear the little Honda roar!

It looks spectacular from 10' away but has its share of patina. Mostly minor paint touch up and corrosion. But the cosmetics are the fun part for me. Dealing with some carb issues right now, once those are done the polishing starts! Pictures to come soon.

Cool story, so you bought it at a Japanese auction and had it imported?
 
What year is this bike? 2007? That is my guess. The brakes were the first give away that it was newer than a sixties bike. You do realize that Suzuki pretty much kicked Honda ass in the 50cc class, right? I rode around on some Suzuki race bikes during the sixties.

Edit: Whoop! I sound like a Debbie Downer, and I don't mean it. I like these little bikes, and I am happy that you found one that you loved from a long time ago.

Actually the bike is a 1997. And you're right, the one it is modeled after, the factory RC110 and RC111 racers and Honda's production CR110, never had tremendous success. Doesn't diminish my passion for this little gem at all though!
